Think this will be a ramble but in need of some advice! Im 36+3 and im measuring 34 (or so i think). The thing is, ive been seeing my midwife weekly but she doesnt seem to know what shes doing or is not really interested, in fact i get more info from the trainee who is with her. When i lie down, my belly does seem to disappear a bit but could be because there is more flab on there this time round, but my midwife said she thinks he is lying right next to my spine, which is fine. But she said he was still breech when she felt him but he wasnt and when i insisted on her checking again, she confirmed he was head down! When i stand up i look perfectly heavily pregnant so she measured me that way and said she would postpone a growth scan as she thinks its just the way he is lying, but because im getting conflicting things from her i dont know if i should be worried or not. I am just all belly and havent put on loads of weight everywhere else, babe is still moving as he should be but because of my hormones i find myself worrying stupidly! Can anyone give some advice if been through anything similar. Sorry for ranting!

I have just had the opposite - my fundus measurement was measuring on the large side so I was sent for a scan on Monday. There could have been a number of reasons why I was measuring large such as too much amniotic fluid, breech baby, gest diabetes (had GTT & all clear anyway) or simply a big baby. Anyway it was good news because the scan showed that baby was normal sized, normal amounts of fluid etc. I don't think that the fundus measurement is totally accurate but if you are worried - and I guess the midwife too - you can arrange for a scan. (& you get to see baby again!!)

my 4d scan showed i was measuring big but they did not seem concerned. if i were you and measuring small i would pop into my local hosp and get them to check it out and the MVs there may reassure you more. When i've been up there i've spoken to lots of different MVs and its great getting different opinions

Hi, I had this at 34 weeks, and sent for growth scans and monitoring, and delivered 8 days early. I worried myself sick but in the end baby was born weighing 6lb 1oz. Afterwards the midwife said I measured small because my abdominal muscles were quite tight and didn't stretch that much. Fundal height measurement is only a rough estimation, it's just that these days midwives/doctors are concerned with being safe rather than sorry.

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy! :)

I wouldn't worry about it hun I had a growth scan last Monday when I was 33 weeks as I was only measuring 30 weeks. At my growth scan my baby was measuring normal size just on the slightly smaller size of normal. I really wouldn't get yourself worried about it hun I'm sure everything is fine. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks for all your support..especially liked the comment about fundal height being as accurate as Midna p*ssing in a pot! That did make me laugh! I just thought by now my midwife would be more like someone i knew as i see her regularly, but each week she asks me the same question like its the first time ive seen her. V frustrating. Will wait until Monday and if she is still dithering i think i will just put my foot down and insist on a scan. Babe been v active today and has changed sides so im thinking he is happy is larry in there. :o

I seem to remember my midwife saying to me they only offer a scan when you are 3 weeks smaller than you should be - maybe thats just this area? anyways i was 3 weeks small from about 28 weeks all the way to the end with damon and everything was fine - he even weighed 8lb 9oz!!

I think it's alot of guess work to be honest.....
I had a MW appointment a few weeks ago, the student measured me and said 37 weeks, the MW measured me to confirm... but i was only 33 weeks to her...... then the OB came to examine me and measured me at 34 weeks..... I was really 35+ weeks
I have a tilted pelvis so i know i measure smaller but the baby is a good size and very active, so i am not worried, I also know it's position because of the kicks etc..... so .... maybe try not to worry too much... i am sure your baby is head down and a good size too..... you'll know yourself.
As MW said head down....... but the OB when she came in to examine me she said breech...... I just laughed.........

we only get a 12 week scan so unless there are real concerns.... i guess i need to wait until this baby is being born to know for sure who is right... Yvonne x
