I put Louies milk up to 4oz about a week ago and he is consistently draining the bottles and I think he would take a bit more if he could. But as I only upped his milk last week should I up it again? Not sure if thats a bit much. Might just be a growth spurt he's having. He has started going longer between feeds too. Sorry if this seems a stupid question, I'm just unsure cos my HV made out to me that I shouldn't over feed him but midwives told me to feed on demand. X

I went by one rule when my LO was younger, if she was draining the bottle, Id put an extra 1oz in. He might just one a few extra sucks but it'll make him lovely and content to have that tiny bit extra. As a general rule babies dont over feed, the just stop when theyre full, but occassionally if they have reflux or colic etc they may over feed as a comfort thing.

I did the same as mel. If charley was draining bottles I'd up it by an oz. If he then started leaving a couple of oz's I'd down an oz. I used to give it a couple of days to see if he was draining every bottle just incase it was a growth spurt!

Thanks ladies. He's still draining the 4oz so if he still is by friday I'm going to up it to 5oz and see how that goes xx

Sounds like he wants a bit more, I would go with it and up the milk, he will only drink what he wants to take. I BF and we on demand feed, it's hard to ondemand feed with bottles unless you are prepare to waste milk all the time, so be guided as you are doing - well done
