Ok so as my ticker reveals im coming up 17 weeks and although i know this is really early to be buying my big bits and bobs were a bit tight on the penies, so i was thinking if i buy a big thing a month, crib, pram ( poss 2 months on that one lol ) etc etc then it should be easier to afford everything anyways. . . . . . . i was browsing moses baskets, as i cant help browsing baby bits every single time i check my email :P and came across one i relli like, so ebayed it and found one for £12 barely used, with the rocker stand which would have been £30 ontop of the £50 for the basket so YAY.
But...... im not sure whether im being organised getting everything together as soon as i can find them on the cheappp, or overexcited i suppose i didnt really think about where were going to put it for the next 5 months or so without the dog climbing in it :S
But. . . . it was a bargain so :P
Anyone else couldnt resist an inconvinient bargain ?

we got everything (except the cot) from my sister in law, and now we are tripping over baby stuff.

the cot is coming, but it is big so we will wait until closer to the birth.

I think it's best to be organised rather than stressing too much right before bubs is due because you haven't bought anything.

I've bought a few cute neutral clothes, but once we find out what we're having I'll buy everything in either pink or blue. The big items I'm shopping around for the best deal for, not because we can't afford things but I hate paying over the odds for something.

yeah thats my mentality id rather buy something when i see it on offer etc even if it is early than stress last minute and end up being ripped off for it, plus i knbow exactly what i want so the more time to find it the better i suppose :)

Enjoy it when you want to, I'm not particularly motivated yet but I bought my travel system at 12 weeks because it was toooooo cheap to turn down and I knew I wouldn't see a chance like that again.

I cant wait to buy lots! But I have to wait for a little while because if we have too move house then I don't want to have too much stuff but soon as we know we will be staying or going then I will start! I'm quite lucky my mum still has my brothers pram and cot and my brothers girlfriends sister has just had a baby so she is passing on loads if clothes to me which is really helpful! I don't mind hand me downs they are only like 3months old so I will make good use out of them :) and they will only get sickyed on!

I bought the travel system after 20 week scan (literally straight after) and got the nursery furniture at 26 weeks - straight after 4D scan! Hehe, it's good because i don't need to worry about anything as we have everything ready and waiting!

We are doing some bits gradually i.e. a pack of nappies every time we pop into a supermarket or wet wipes or something like that

I think you're wise to be organised especially on a tight budget. I'm not sure if you're on benefits or not but if you are then when you're 11 weeks due you can claim for the £500 maternity grant to help buy bits and bobs.

I've only really just started shopping properly but this was mainly because I couldnt get properly organised at the old house as I knew I was about to be rehoused one way or another but since moving last saturday i've gone mad and can't stop buying. I've got the cot up and ready in our bedroom and the swinging crib is also set up in the bedroom. I've got the moses basket set up in the lounge. A bouncer chair tucked away tidy, a bumbo seat for when the baby is starting to sit up. I've got a few bit of clothes away in drawers sitting and waiting. I have the sterliser, baby monitor and nappy bin. Nappy bin being used already for my 2 year old. Today I got some bottles, newborn nappy kit from asda which consists of baby nappys, wipes and socks and I also got a baby kit from mothercare which consists of nappy bags, wipes, cotton wool, baby bath, baby oil, baby lotion, soft brush and comb, nail clippers. I'm also on a tight buget and some of the above stuff came from my local freecycle groub namly the moses basket, swinging crib, monitor, moses basket, moses basket stand, sheets and nappy bin. I would strongly advice using your local freecyle group as it is brilliant.

Freecycle always have things going, its brilliant when we know where we are I will be getting loads of stuff from them. :)

really exciting buying for new baby and you cant help yourself cos every baby deserves the best..but im gonna be a spoil sport here and tell you that a moses basket is not really needed as babies grow out of it quickly. holly only used it for three months..its better if you buy something nice with the sixty quid or so that it costs..like a nice maternity dress for you..or a really nice cot..and bedding! sorry..im a spoil sport!

Babe, I've got everything already! Seriously, I only need to buy a breastpump (but I'm waiting to see how me and Evie take to it first) so I'm literally just buying clothes now!

You're being organised IMO, very organised and I think it's a great idea :cheer: xx

I bought loads of big stuff early and my MIL told me I was being too hasty so I thought I'd leave it a bit.... now I'm 36 weeks and I still have a load of stuff to get and haven't got the energy to be bothered with going and getting it so I'm getting everything off the net

Wish I'd done it earlier! :wall:

I second the freecycle big up, just got a beautiful cot from there (chucked the mattress of course) and loads of maternity gear.

Also been given great hand me downs from friends and work mates...moses basket, clothes, pram, bouncer, when I think of the stuff I gave away Im so greatful for the help we are getting

Organisation is the key and if you are on a low budget its sensible to spread the cost.

As it will be an addition to the household anyway after not too long we will be setting up the cot and storing all the stuff in that once we have no room in cupboards till bubba is born

I love freecycle ! Its like a great big jumble sale/ swap shop have passed on a bookshelf and bed and received a sofa and monitor that way !
Id feel guilty this early in trying to get my email in early for baby bits n bobs i think tho, as theres probably some poor sod out there whos a week away from LO arriving without a breast pump or crib or something and id just pop it in my baby pile for months on end !
But im glad u reminded me, i should sign up in my OH's area too!! lol plus im going to be moving soon too me thinks, so youve also just reminded me not to make more work for myself :wall:
You ruddy spoil sport !!!! im not sure if knowing i dont need the basket now makes me feel good because i got it at such a bargain price and it made my sad little day, or bad because i got it and i may never need it , im going to go with yay bargain !!
I love it alot its the toys r us one with the dangly bears and the rocker bottom and i love it alot !!!(again) Like i said the dog can always live in luxioury if LO doesnt like, or i can do my bit and freecycle it !
Anyways i feel alot better now, maybe even qualified to call myself organised, who would have thought it !!! :rotfl:
