Just wondered what i should do really, feel at a bit of a loss.

As most of you prob already know ive suffered with back pain since about 20 weeks. Well since yesterday afternoon its gotton really bad. Last night i couldnt sit down and get back up without my OH hauling me into a standing position - and even that was hugely painful!

Ive already been to the doctors about it and im on a never ending waiting list for physio - i dont know if theres any point in going back as i dont think theres anything else they can do?

If also tried a bump support band but this time the pains too bad to even put it on!

.....Plus im supposed to be working tonight 5-10  but i cant even stand properly! x

Sorry to hear you're back is getting worse. Have you tried using a hot water bottle on it whilst you are sat down?
With regards to work, can you not call in sick for today? You don't want to be standing all night if you're in that much pain.

Sounds to me like your body is tellin you enough is enough hun and that it's time to slow down.

Personally I would call the doctor - they can give you pain relief at least (not sure if you want to take them but they can!) and could also contact the hospital and see if they can get you in any earlier for physio.

I hear birthing balls are good for relieving backache - something to do with positioning of the hips - worth a try anyway!

With that much pain sounds like you have no choice but to call in sick hun - they know how much you have been struggling with your back xx

Big :hugs: hun. I agree with the girls. Think you should call in sick today. Also what miss said about calling the doc because they prescribe a stronger painkillers for you. Hope you feel better soon.
X

Sorry you're in pain hun.

Really don't know what to suggest but working your shift tonight doesn't sound like much of an option to me.

Call a doctor rather than a midwife for advice because it's normal to get back ache in pregnancy but yours sounds more than that.

Hope you feel better hun

xx

I totally sympathise - I have always suffered with lower back pain and the last 6 weeks or so it has got progressively worse. It gets worse when I do long drives and I can't sit down, lie down or stand without being in pain. I find some days are worse than others. Have you tried gentle swimming? What about lying on the floor with your feet at a right angle up on a chair to take some of the rpessure off your back. I find these can sometimes help temporarily.

Really feel for you as I know what you're going through!

Thanks everyone for your kind replies. Ive been in bed all afternoon and feeling a tad better - still painful but i can move a bit more. Im not going to work, im going to have a long weekend and ive got the midwife on wednesday so im going to ask about any classes i can do. Also OH said he would pick me up a birthing ball so ill try that too! x

Glad you're not working tonight! You don't want to risk making it worse. I've suffered with my back to the point where when i first get up I can't put weight down on either leg without support. Things I've found to help are - soaking in a hot bath (though need help getting out), lying down on my side, bouncing on a birthing ball, going for a swim but not actually swimming just sorta standing in the water and having a gentle stretch, getting OH to give you a gentle massage.

Hope you're feeling better soon xxx

Hey Cherelle, hope you're feeling better chick. Just wanted to endorse the birthing ball suggestion. I've had terrible back pains since about week 16 and they've been really bad the past couple of weeks but my birthing ball is gentuinely my saviour...it makes me feel so much better after I've had a good old bounce and roll around. Trust me, you won't regret getting one.

xx

when you say birthing balls, do you mean those huge blow up balls? I've got one, I used to use it for situps, but how can it help your back? just by sitting on it? lying on it? tips would be much appreciated.

hope the back has eased cherelle

xx

Yes they're just like the exercise balls but a different size I think...I think your hips have to be at a certain angle as they come in three different sizes depending on your height. I don't do much exercise on mine, but I do sit on it when I watch tv and bounce and sort of roll on it, really helps to relieve the pain as it is something to do with the pelvis...

Hmmm...I'm about as much help as a chocolate teapot...

xx

thanks wish. I'm going to google it and see if I can get one!

yummy! a chocolate tea pot! :) :) xx

Thanks girls, still in pain today and having to be pretty much manouvered around by my poor OH but im glad its the weekend and i can chill out now :)

I was just going to get an exercise ball to use from my OHs gym - didnt realise the birthing balls are different? Might have a look for one now on Ebay x

hi Hun, I got signed off sick for a few weeks with back pain. Since then I've gone back to work on amended duties. If I were you I'd have a couple of days off to rest up. Your doc can do you a fit note saying that you can do only light duties at work. It is really helping me. To be honest the Physio is useless. Apparently it won't get better until after birth and the Physio just gives you a few exercises to do which don't do much. With less work my back pain has really eased up, but I am being careful as it can flare up really easily. x

Hope it eases up hun have you got a ball yet. X x

got a ball off a friend but need OH to go and pump it up lol. It hasnt been too bad the last few days - i think my head pain has just taken over! xx

Ive just started getting this - its horrible!
My lower back just constantly aches and feels like its under constant strain (which it is I suppose!), and my upper back feels like I have pulled the muscles in between my shoulder blades!

How the hell have you coped since 20 wks?!
x

with difficulty!! I cant walk around for long and sit down for long its a nightmare! Im seeing midwife today so ill see if she can suggest anything else but ive kinda resigned to it now :-(

Hope you get on ok at the midwife. Midwife said I should get a ball for early labour. Where have you guys got yours?

x
