yesterday i was fine whilst i was at work, as soon as i got home and put my feet up, my ankles swelled up Sooooooo badly, they were gross, when i poked them it left a 1cm indent that lasted for ages (yucky), i rested all evening and didnt think much of it

i woke up in the night with puff ball ankles still and my fingers were HUGE! i couldnt get my ring off, and my finger went purpley colour (scary),,,

next time i woke up i had banging heachache and have has ever since, swelling in ankles has gone down, but i just feel a little worried as a know these can all be signs of preclampsia ?????????????

i texted my midwife and she said is baby moving? (YES) swelling in feet gone down, she said probs nothing to worry about....... i just still feel bit worried, any opinions on this being "normal"???????????????

sorry long post, i'll stop rambleing on now! hehe

Hi
I had this last weekend. I went to work on sat then got home and decided to wallpaper my dining room
I was fine untill I sat down and then my feet blew up like balloons. I had stumps rather than feet and ankles. I took all my rings off then just incase my hands did the same and they did. I had the midwife on Monday and she said that the swelling was normal and pain killers didnt help the headache then call her.
I moaned sooooooo much about my huge ugly feet that on Wed hubby got fed up and booked us into a spa for the night. :cheer: Whilst there I had a "pregnancy massage" and the lady did something to help shift the fluid from my feet. It really worked and they have been fine since.
Hope this helps.

I've just started getting really swollen feet. I'm doing to much walking so got to put my feet up more (any excuse  ). DH rubs my legs from ankle up to knee a few times and it really really helps and is instant an improvement.
My feet have definitely got bigger as my trainers feel a little tight and my anklet no longer does up :( .

I had swollen feet before finlay was born - they were ok but then the day he was born they were stupidly swollen. He arrived early too

Not to frighten you but you should contact your labour ward asap (or midwife if you don't see this until Monday).
I had the same thing. It's called 'pitted odema' and is a sign of pre-eclampsia.
It's not always that and lots of people get swelling without the pre-eclampsia but it's a dangerous condition and so worth getting it checked out asap.

I'm a little suprised your midwife brushed you off so quickly! last time i saw the midwife she siad she liked my shoes and i happened to mention i'd bought them cos my normal shoes dont fit very well anymore cos of swelling, and even though she'd just taken my BP she still seemed concerned about it.

It is normal to have swelling after being on your feet, i definately get it and in my hands too, but like lucybee said it CAN be a sign of pre-eclampsia, but thats not to say it is.

If you dont wanna ring them again maybe leave it a day or two and see if the swelling and headaches continue.

Here are more pre-eclampsia symptoms.
If you are experiencing any of these then you should see someone today to get checked over.
If not, then call your midwife anyway to discuss the swelling with her.
Sorry to harp on, it's just such a serious condition that you need to be aware.

What are the symptoms?
There are no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. At this point it can only be detected by checking blood pressure (which may be raised) and testing the urine for protein (known as proteinuria). These checks are a routine part of all antenatal appointments, and it's important all pregnant women attend these.

Another early sign of pre-eclampsia is swelling of the ankles, or oedema. The hands and face may swell too. Pregnant women should report any swelling, although it's common in pregnancy and may be due to less worrying causes.

Pregnant women should be aware of the early signs of pre-eclampsia because the condition can rapidly become life-threatening.

Symptoms of more serious problems may develop as pre-eclampsia progresses. These include:

Headaches
Blurred or altered vision
Abdominal or shoulder pain
Nausea and vomiting
Confusion
Shortness of breath

If you're worried about any symptoms, see your midwife or doctor as soon as possible
