Semen analysis

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice. We've been referred to the fertility clinic by our gp following some initial tests. I'm just a bit confused about my husbands results. His first test the motility was 25 -30 %. Apparently the gp told him on the phone it was nothing to worry about but wanted a second sample. The second one was 45-50%. I went with him the docs for those results and again he was saying not a major issue, prob what is expected for a 39 yr old. He kept saying most couples find it just happens once the pressure is off. He has referred us on as we've been trying for 18 months but feel like he was not being very honest in the hope that it would suddenly happen for us ! My husband is now under the impression that everything is hunky dory and we have no fertility issues !

Anybody have similar results ? X

Hi Meggymac, have you asked for a copy of the results? That may make them a bit clearer. I am certainly no expert in semen analysis but from hubby's results it says that the WHO lower reference limit for total motility is equal to or greater than 40%, so the second results seem absolutely fine! I think they need to be read in conjuction to the volume as well though, because although the first results are a bit lower than you'd hope, if the volume is higher then that would make up for the lower motility levels because over all you'd have more, if you see what I mean? I hope that is of some help and I haven't just confused the matter more xx

I also thought it should be 40%+ so that second result sounds fine. I can't remember what my husbands results were.

Thanks for the replies. I have a copy of the results and the count was fine in both. I get what you mean about volume even with a lower count. Glad to know it's 40+ , I had been trying to google it ! It's put my mind at ease x
