I know, its taken me 6 months to perfect this story enough to post..But i thought id share because ive enjoyed reading everyones stories!
..So heres mine!
I was due to give birth to Sebastian on 24th May 2012, i had a very easy pregnancy, no sickness, sore boobs..Just tiredness but it was nothing i couldn't cope with, I had my 40 week midwife appointment where everything was checked and fine, and then i was told that 40 weeks was too early to intervene but if i went a week over i would be offered the sweep..True enough a week overdue comes by fast..I bit my tongue and decided to have the sweep in hope of something progressing..The news wasn't good, i wasn't even dilated any!, closed, long but soft cervix greeted me, i was gutted
..I received my induction for June 5th at 12pm, i begged Sebastian not to come on that day as i really didn't want a jubilee baby.
The night before i was a nervous wreck!, i was so restless and scared..But finally happy that at 12 days overdue there was an end in sight..I had just gotten my head down to sleep when i felt these stomach cramps, i dismissed it as being stressed and nervous as i get tummy aches quite a lot when im nervous or scared!, i shrugged it off and rolled over to go back to sleep before being woken again by a pain. I thought it was a false alarm so i didn't really tell fiance as he was asleep, this continued until 9am when i eventually gave up trying to get comfortable, by now my fiance was aware of the pain and was joking i was in labour..I told him not to be so bloody stupid
, very snappy!!, he was a gem and rang through the birthing unit where i was having my baby and they finalised me to come in at 12pm.
We arrived by taxi, i remember having such an in depth conversation with the taxi driver about kids and he gave us his congratulations when we got to the hospital, so I gave him a tip!
, we we're shown to our room and i was hooked up to the monitor which monitored my contractions and Seb's heart beat, the machine showed i was contracting but not regularly. I waited around here for my midwife to come in and check everything over with me, in her hand she had a hormone pessary which she explained what it was for..I was examined internally..Damn painful when your contracting and found to be 2-3cms and my waters we're bulging..I thought it would be a piece of cake from there on out as she gave me another sweep, and afterwards encouraged me to walk..So me and fiance went down to the hospital shop for snacks and drinks..Even though my appetite had deserted me!..And being emetophobic i had been discouraged from eating after reading many people are sick in labour!, and staying away from certain pain relief.
We went back to our room, where i was coping with the contractions well, they we're still really irregular but i found breathing through them and wiggling around when standing up was helping a great deal!, eventually a midwife popped her head around to tell me i would be moving to labour ward at 6pm to have my water broken, so i prepared myself!..When 6pm came around i wanted to walk there, the room was pretty huge and i felt lost sitting on the bed in the middle of the room with all the cupboards around me, i was checked again and i was still only 3cms. So they proceeded to break my water, which i can only describe as it feeling like doing a big wee
..There was so much water i almost feel sorry for the poor woman who had to change my bed, they noticed meconium in my water so my active birth was out of the window, instead i was strapped to the bed all the time with monitors..We had a very wiggly baby that didn't want to hold still. At 7pm the shift changed and my new midwife Hayley was lovely, she fetched me whatever i needed and always asked if i was comfortable, bless her heart!
My contractions still hadn't evened out so it was decided the drip would be fitted, immediately seb' took a large dislike to the drip and his heart rate began falling, i had first dose of paracetomol and codeine as my temperature was raised, as soon as the drip turned down Seb's heart would speed back up again!, this carried on for most of the night the lowest his heart rate got to was around 40BPM, the consultant came in to talk to me at around 4am and told me there was no progress with my contractions so they offered me an epidural as by this stage i had been in labour for 24+ hours and i was fairly tired!..Those things truly are bliss!!
..I was checked once again and still only found to be 3cms..No progress whatsoever!!
At around 7:30am the consultant came back and gave me a choice, because i had been in labour for 24 hours plus (32 in total), and there was still no progress i could either have a c-section or progress myself but be unsure how and if i would progress myself, its safe to say i chose the c-section..I signed my consent form, had my epidural topped up, catheter fitted and OH gowned up too and we we're in theatre for around quarter to 8.
It was a nerve wracking time, i had gotten the epidural shakes and the surgeons we're laughing as i had managed to shake my legs free and they had landed to rest at either side of the table, i was told to stop shaking my legs as they we're resting their tools on my legs, in the end they had to strap them down but they still managed to shake!.
The surgeons then told me that Sebastian's head was stuck in my cervix which had caused it not to dilate properly!..After what seemed like ages Sebastian let out his first cry 8
