I was feeding Jacob and he started shivering all over, looking straight forward and his pupils got very small... It kind of reminded me of an adult having a seizure, but was more gentle than that. I grabbed his shoulder and tried to get him to stop and he didn't, but then I grabbed his hand and squeezed it, at which point he stopped. He seems fine now... Squealy and giggling. I am waiting for the doctor to call me back now, but I am having trouble staying calm. It helps that he seems okay now, but what if he had a seizure? My husband is changing him right now and he seems okay... Sorry this is all over the place but I am all over the place. Every nurse in the sugery is on lunch at the same time! They shouldn't do that! There is nothing I can do but wait now. Hurry up! :(

Galen has done this a few times. I was a bit worried to start with but I chatted with my HV about it after it happened a few times during feeds. I just gently stroke his face or hair and talk to him and if he still keeps going then a give his arm a gentle tug and very gently change his position slightly. He then stops and carrys on feeding. I don't take him off my boob as I find this tends to wake him and he is confused.

I think Galen goes into a bit of a trance like state is all and is sort of between awake and sleep and his body just does this little unconcious reaction. When going off to sleep pupils do get small iirc.

I've never worried enough to take him to the GP as he is always fine after and it only ever happens when he is having a big feed and he is in the sort of sleepy state. If he had stopped feeding or seemed out of sorts after these little episodes I'd do so but he is always bright and alert etc. My HV wasn't overly worried either and said to keep an eye of course and if I was unhappy about things then to go see GP then. But as it only happens when feeding and not often then, I've let it be.

Not sure if its the same but I used to find with my LO that sometimes when breastfeeding his eyes would roll back and he would kind of shake for a moment, then he'd snap out of it. I was very worried and discussed with my HV, MW and the GP. Basically it was because of the prolactin in the breastmilk, it was making him sort of drunk! All the health professionals said it was normal and some babies are just prone to it.

I don't know if its the same as your experience, hope he's fine and you get to speak to your surgery soon.

Thank you for your replies. It helps a lot to know that we aren't the only ones to experience this. I am seeing the doctor at about 4 today just to be safe, though, because my mother has epilepsy and I have had a few absence seizures in the past. I think it will just be what you both described, though. I hope so, anyway!

Good luck at the surgery, let us know how you get on

sounds so nerve wracking! gosh these babies give us worry huh! hope the doctor visit goes well.

Sorry it took so long to update but I haven't had a second to update until now. The GP was satisified that Jacob was fine. He said that it can look like seizure activity sometimes if a baby is bordering between sleep and awake, but to keep an eye out and keep track of anything else like this because of my history.

Thanks again for the replies! :D

 hugs hun x I'm sure it was just as the doctor says and probably won't happen again x

Kim x x x x
