I've been reading up on cotton nappies and I never thought I'd be saying this, but I am really considering using reusable nappies when we have our baby.

I spoke to my husband about it and he wasn't 100% sold but said it was upto me. I feel like if we're going to make this decision we should both be informed about it though.

Has anyone tried both and got any opinions on which is the best?

I've used both and much prefer cloth!

I started wirh cloth when my firstborn was about 9 months old.

When my second came alongng my eldest was very poorly and I found clothing overwhelming so I used disposables.

If I'm Lucky enough to have another ill be using cloth

It's worth looking to see if your local council do an incentive scheme

Used both here too and I wish we’d found reusables with my first! I love them and they work wonders for us I enjoy sitting in the evening stuffing my nappies when they are all dry xxx

I’m going to sound really dense here, but can someone explain how they work?! I’ve considered them but am really put off by the washing etc?!

You wear then, tip any solids into the loo and just run the rest through the wash g machine
I dry pailed and did a wash every 2-3 days. It's not that much work tbh and you'll probably save about 600

Dry Pauling is the safest for the nappies saves elastics and pul which is a waterproof layer inside the nappy, they can be just like a disposable and use Velcro or poppers whichever you prefer to use and honestly it’s so much nicer but it’s not for everyone I’d have a look at a second hand bundle ask about elastics and stinks and stains and pul and someone will help you out xxx

I am looking at part time cloth with my little one due in August. I don't think childminder and dad will get the hang of it as dad struggles with disposables sometimes getting them done up properly but I have bought a tots bot trial kit on offer for £28 for 5 nappies and some flip starter kits with disposable liners as thought they may also be a compromise, especially with sticky newborn poo.

If you don't get on with them they have good resale value. There are some good reusable nappy pages on Facebook

I thought my husband wouldn't get on but he loved them, really preferred them to sposies, it took a while for him to get the hang of it but he loved stuffing them :rotfl:

I can't wait to cloth bum again

Thanks for the advice everyone :)
We've decided to give the cotton nappies a go and I am actually really excited. Haha didn't think I'd get excited about nappies but herd I am.
We've been looking at them online tonight; I think we'll get the biodegradable liners at least to start with as they can be flushed along with the newborn sticky poo, but they surely need to be better than using disposables.

Husband seems well on board with it as well.

Unfortunately our council don't offer any incentives so we won't have as much of an opportunity to try stuff out but we have time to make a decision as little one isn't due until February
