As I am planning to use cloth nappies, I have been looking into also using cloth baby wipes. The most popular kit seems to be Cheeky Wipes, which gives you wipes plus plastic boxes, oils and portable bags. Has anyone got these and would you recommend them?

I've also been thinking about cheaper alternatives. I've read that you can just cut up fleece, but have read it can be a pain to use as it's not very absorbent, but also I find it squeaky like cotton wool, so not keen.

Does anyone use muslin cloth for cloth baby wipes? Have bought several metres of that already so if it could be used for baby wipes that would be good.

Alternatively, I was just going to get some bamboo wipes from ebay, some cheap tupperware boxes and some of the Cheeky Wipes oils.

One thing I have been thinking though is, how mucky do baby wipes get? I'm planning to use a disposable liner in my cloth nappies so the poo gets flushed away mostly. Will cloth wipes be covered in baby poo and will I just wash this in the machine or should it be soaked off first?

Does anyone have any insight into my ideas, and/or able to offer any other tips about using cloth baby wipes?

I love love love my cheeky wipes! They are no hassle, smell nice and are nice to use. I have used disposables when out and about (the freebies you get with emmas diary etc) but don't feel like I am cleaning her properly. Ihhave many a time changed her nappy again as soon as I am home just to clean her properly with the cheeky wipes! On the plus side, so far I have had no nappy rash problems either which I am convinced is the wipes. Now my freebies have run out I am using the travel bags which I never had any intention of doing and I am planning on getting a second set shortly to use downstairs when I start weaning.
I would recommend getting extra wipes, I have 50 and that is plenty, there is an offer this month where you get 25 wipes free when you spend over £35 so problem solved! I also use disposable nappies, apparently everything is even easier with reusable nappies. Never had a problem with stains etc, everything has always come out in the machine.
Let me know if you have any questions, I won't be going back to disposables!

I agree - Cheeky Wipes are brilliant!! We don't actually use the storage box for the clean wipes - just stick in a jug of water to wet them but do use the mucky box as designed. Definitely worth the money - LO is 9 months now and they're still as good as new; they wash well and we use some for hands and face at mealtimes. Fab!! xx

Ooh I might just go for the cheeky wipes then, especially with the special offer on. I worked out I'd only save about £10 doing diy version, so will just get the cheeky wipes pack.

Thanks!

Just received my cheeky wipes through the post. Too exhausted right now to open it - but hoping to very soon.

Just received my second set yesterday for weaning!

My pack arrived, they look great! I think the free microfibre ones will be good for wet nappies and the bamboo ones for pooey bums.

I have come to the same conclusion about the microfibre ones - the website doesn't recommend them for poo. Therefore I have bought a second fresh box to store them in. Had our first poonami today (everywhere!) - was so glad I set up my wipes yesterday as it was much easier to deal with.

Lovely, poonami! Haha! I'm thinking of buying an extra bundle of bamboo/cotton ones too, so there's plenty to use between washes. I'll see how I get on at first though, they deliver quickly and I've got a couple of packs of Water Wipes as back up.

I also have water wipes for back up. just realised I should have ordered more wipes and another net bag for mucky box for when washing. However washed them today and put straight back in box (as recommended) and no issues at all. I think they're great - especially as I can't stand the smell of normal baby wipes.

Actually I think complicated wipes are a minefield, and a bit of commercialism gone mad. Cheap flannels, kept dry, and warm water in a top and tail bowl when needed works just as well, and is far less complicated and cheaper. I don't like the idea of keeping wipes wet, as they can breed bacteria, and get smelly and slimy. When out and about use dry wipes with a bit of baby lotion, if you don't have access to warm water.
