Scarlett (4 weeks today) has had a bad few days, she's really getting uncomfortable during feeding and afterwards. She goes rigid and tries to throw herself backwards, i suppose arching her back. She's only having 2oz every 2 hours in a feed then will start rooting again after half an hour, but will only take a few gulps then cry and repeat. She always seems to be smacking her lips as if she has a mouthful of something, hiccuping after most feeds, difficult to wind, she's really fidgety and very loudly grunting in her sleep too doesn't seem content unless in her swing or our arms. Hv said colic and to try colief which I had been doing, but then since Friday she's been like above. We've also tried infacol and dentinox.

I spoke to a pharmacist on Saturday to get.more colief who said it sounded more like silent reflux or a cows milk protein allergy as she has quite a scaly spotty littke rash on her face that flares up when feeding she's not always sick though so I think gp will be reluctant to even do anything. She gets constipated then the other extreme of having three massive poos in one day.

Don't know why I posted this really, guess just wanted to see if anyone else had went through anything similar. Xx

Sounds like your LO is clearly suffering. My first had all the above with the most amazing puking and poor weight gain so easier to diagnose as reflux. Go and talk to gp though, lots of things to try. Don't suffer through it, it's so exhausting.

My lo had reflux and sounds like that. I was fobbed off that it was colic and try gripe water.I went to the GP and I pushed for prescription formula after she refused to take baby gaviscon. I was advised by a paediatric dietician to try enfamil AR that has added rice and needs the baby's excess stomach acid to thicken once it hits the stomach. Different baby. No drugs and no paying for expensive thickened formulas. 15 months on that and she flourished and symptoms gone. Persevere with GP.

Hey Doll eyes

We had this from about 3 weeks on. Jackson comfort feeding every other hour and in agony. I ended up switching from SMA to stage 2 C&G as it was more creamier and didnt seem to play havoc on his tummy. We got a diangosis and prescribed gaviscon but this wasn't in the chemists for months so in the end I had to basically change his milk and cut his feeds which meant holding him off as long as possible and for every hour he went, give an oz. He had settled and was sleeping like a wee log by 7w. I was knackered at first as it was constant. He ended up taking 5oz every 3 hours then would scream in agony and I couldnt put him down, ever! poor boy.

There is a C&G Reflux milk only sold in boots and is a bit more expensive, however I chose to stick to stage 2 because it had nothing extra added, like hungry baby, reflux etc. Jackson was in turn from over eating getting constipated, which didnt help - so we gave cooled water inbetween to try and keep away from milk as long as possible and encourage bowels. Some suggested switching to hungry baby, but these are filled with starch and therefore wouldnt help us.

Aptimil and C&G are the same company, except Aptimils dearer, so I stuck with C&G.

The above came after weeks of coleif, detinox, infacol, massages, constant winding.. The only thing that worked was to cut his feeds and switched his milk.

Hope you get something sorted for your wee baby!

Be aware in fact can cause constipation also. Don't buy formula get it prescribed if diagnosis confirmed.
