So a week today if the baby isnt here yet I will be going in for a sweep.

At first I wasnt bothered about it until my lovely OH was on the phone to me just then and was saying how the mw will be getting her whole hand up 'there' to do the sweep..which started stressing me out as it is gonna be so uncomfortable, and I'm quite petite down there anyway (how the hell a baby is getting out of there is beyond me never mind a hand going up there!)

Grr and now I'm stressed because I've had no proper signs of him showing yet, we haven't really got the money to be buying the lavendar and clary sage and curries and pineapples, and my OH feels uncomfortable having sex with me because he can feel the baby moving and he feels awkward which is fair enough.

Plus, my OH is such a wind up merchant that I'm half expecting that he was joking.

I know that to other people it's probably really silly to be worrying about this when other people have real problems within their pregnancy, and I am grateful that everything is okay with my baby, but I've just got myself worked up about it.

I never had a sweep done, but I didn't think it's supposed to be painful? Maybe a bit uncomfortable... Cheer up, it can't be that bad! xx

Having never had one done I'm not too sure what happens but I'm sure she won't have her whole hand up there and will be as gentle as possible. I've been worrying about having to have one too, although it's still a while away for me.
Hope it goes okay though, I'm sure it will hunny :hugs:

I'm booked in next Friday for one, apparently it's abit like have a smear, depending on who's doing it some people find it gentle and some very uncomfortable.
I once had a smear with a horrible doctor and it was uncomfortable at the time but over in seconds so I'm trying to think of it like that. Don't think it's going to be horrific otherwise they wouldn't do them at all

I think the late pregnancy hormones are supposed to make everything a lot more "elastic" down there. Am pretty sure she's not going to try and punch her way through hunny, I bet it's a lot more gentle than you think it will be.

And in my humble experience pregnancy turns most men into either "experts" or comedians xxxxxxx

I had one done with my last and it's not that bad at all. Slightly uncomfortable but not painful. You'll be fine.

Hey hon, I had 4 sweeps with my second and honestly I was terrified after reading some horror stories but honestly I didn't think it was painful at all - not much different to a smear tbh x x x

I have a sweep booked for 5 days time.

Tbh i'm not really too bothered about the pain, just dont want anyone near my bits  its not too bad when your in labour coz your not bothering but I duno, i'm really anxious about it too, suppose we'll just need to get it over with, and think that hopefully we wont need to see the MW that much longer anyway.

I've never had one or a smear, only had internals thro pregnancy...so dont really know what to expect.

Hey hun............not had one myself but my friend was having an internal near her due date and they discovered her cervix was 'ripe' so did a sweep............she didn't even know about it til after! (not great that they didn't tell her, but at the same time can't be that bad if she didn't even notice!) Would have thought the more you worry and tense up the potential for it to be painful is greater so I would just try and stay relaxed and tell MW you are worried it will hurt.......good, professional reassurance can go a long way sometimes xxxx

Forget about that whole hand business - only a man could come up with something quite as ludicrous as that... They only use 2 fingers, as with any "normal" examination down there. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but not that bad, either, and if you tell her to stop she'll stop. You'll be fine!!

Hi Hun, I had a sweep at 38weeks and the mw only used 2 fingers, I won't lie, it is uncomfortable but it's not bad.. She basically inserts her fingers into the cervix and does a circle motion, it's more of a "hurry up and get your fingers out" rather than "this hurts please stop".. You will be grand, good luck x

Aww thank you ladies I feel better now :) I know, he proper thinks he's hilarious as if he's not done enough damage haha! I'll definately be breaking his hand in the labour ward. hopefully it won't be that bad, I'll prob be more embarrassed than her...for now I'll be pinning my OH down hopefully to get things going before thurs! If I do end up having one I will tell all the gory details :) xx

What a mean OH! At first mine teased me about labour and the pain and such so I said to him, that he'd need to have some tests done to make sure he's ok and not passed anything on to baby and that this involved having a stick shoved down his hoo ha that opens up into an umbrella. His face looked something like this  he actually believed me aswell x

hahaha tha's so funny! I'm rubbish at fibbing so he wouldnt believe me :( he is good, he just likes to wind people up, however last night I burst into tears about thurs and he was all sorry and went and bought some hot curry and was fussing all night mwahaha! that'll teach him :) xx
