Well i'll keep it short. I was referred to fetal medicine unit at Bristol to see a specialist. He is concerned as babys head and bally are on small side. Basically meaning there could be something wrong.
Unsure on what to do, we could have an amniocentesis but obviously this carries risks of early labour (I'm 25 weeks) this is the only sure way to know if there is anything wrong.
We are booked for an mri and have to go back in 3 weeks to see consultant again.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do, how can I carry on with this hanging over us.

I was shocked today as I thought we going up to just check babies stomach, not that there could be something really wrong.
What the hell am I supposed to do :sad:

Sorry you are going through this hun. You must be in shock just now. Maybe wait until you have more information from the mri and then decide from there about the amniocentesis? If you do decide on the amnio it is worth bearing in mind that every week from now improves the baby's chances if the worst happened and it caused early labour so you could always consider delaying it slightly.

this pregnancy is the only one where i have been seen regularly at a hospital and in my experience they err on the side of panic and caution over everything and any little thing they are straight to worstcase scenario (i was told get ready to take steroids and induce a few weeks back and it turned out everything was fine)

i know its frightening but try to just take each day as it comes and wait for the next stage of the investigation. "on the small side" sounds like it could be nothing....

hey :)

I am really sorry you are going through this. I just wanted to share what happened with us as it might be of some comfort- we got told at a scan that our baby was on the small side. We got told at 2 subsequent scans also that she seemed to be coming up small for how many weeks I was. We started to get really worried and they started talking all about monitoring her size and different things they could do. Our last scan they told us she was perfectly normal and had just taken a bit of time to catch up to the expected size and weight, and since then any checks we have had have come back that she is normal. Your baby could just be a bit slower to have a growth spurt than expected ..I really hope that this is the case and you don't have to go through all of that xx

I agree they tend to make stuff sound scarier than it is sometimes. Hopefully they are just being over cautious.

Hi ladies

thanks for the comments, hopefully they are just being extra cautious.

Hopefully just caution and sometimes at the next scan all looks fine as that part of the body has caught up. I had the opposite problem of one scan where the belly showed up as being big in comparison however was fine next time.

Just be aware that what they are talking about is certain body parts being small which could (but probably doesn't) indicate a health problem rather than just baby being small overall which would be dealt with differently as with some of the comments above.

Better to be safe than sorry

I'm sorry you're going through this :(
It's impossible not to worry but like the ladies say it could also be nothing!

My son was measuring small at his growth scans, but I can assure you he was not!
They don't always get everything right and remember the scales are also averages and this is little people we're talking about! We're all different shapes and sizes so I should imagine the same is true for inside the womb?
I don't want to downplay your situation as you must be so worried but take each day as it comes :hugs:
