So I have just expressed from the breast R fed from last managed around 50ml, he is due a feed soon so will feed him from the other breast and express the leftover after that.

Question is, can I use the same bottle to express into? Seeing as it's the same day, and where do I store this BM in between expressing? I've put it in the fridge for now, but won't it go funny if I put fresh EBM in it? I will date it as the first time I expressed of the day if that makes sense.

TIA xx

Pop the first lot of EBM in the fridge. The second lot should be cooled to same temp before being added to the first lot iykwim. And yes dating it for the earliest date is correct :) xx

so different bottles it is then :) thanks x

I think the latest guidelines state that you don't need to cool to the same temp if on the same day hun.

Kelly mom is a good reference website xx

I just chuck it all in together

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

Anyone know why the guideline changed just out of interest? Common sense would suggest that the second, warm milk would bring up the temperature of the first milk, shortening its life surely? Or does the fridge kill any bad bacteria that may develop in the temporarily warmer EBM? Or is it some whole other issue?

I actually use mine up so quickly that I never get close to the end of its "life" but when giving advice I thought better safe than sorry. I apologise if I caused any unnecessary hassle! Xx

I think it's to do with the antibodies etc in bm that keep bacteria etc in check. Therefore the rules of normal milk/formula don't apply to bm.

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

No hassle Hun! The antibodies in BM kill any bacteria x
