hi all,

so I have/had dealing with mild anxieties in past. Referred self to CBT, works but deep down suppose I'll always have this trait. I can control it and not nor ever been on medication

I was referred to OB because of this, he discharged me saying im low risk and seem perfectly ok and that will have assesment at 34 week. Fab

But i check my notes and see under 'Recommended Management Plan' referal to physciatrist. What? He didn't even ask my anxiety nor did we speak about it, he didnt even mention this. I'm concerned becauze, and I don't want to offend, but that insinuates a much more serious mental illness PLUS nobody told me. Is this a 'if needs must' or are they referring me? I didn't see notes until after I left.

ask them?

My midwife started saying if I was prone to anxiety/depression then I was at risk of some kind of post birth psychosis!
She started saying women see stuff that isn't there and go mad (lovely! Just what I need to hear)

Perhaps it's just precautionary? to flag it up and give you a fallback? if they have discharged you then I wouldn't imagine there'd be cause for concern...

I hope you feel better, I was suffering a fair bit but I've managed to keep it at bay by being active we all find something that works I suppose x

my anxiety has been fine during pregnancy tbh, not even noticed it. Feeling sick most days so it's a welcome distraction. I've had anxiety on off for a few years but always manageable

I'm seeing my midwife Wednesday so will ask, it's just threw me a bit as nobody mentioned it. I can't call as they aren't open on weekends (calls wise) Ironically it's made me anxious seeing that note lol.

aah I'm sure it's fine :) Maybe they'd just rather the help was there in case?
Glad it's not too bad for you! x

I don't think it insinuates you have more of a "serious" mental illness. Anxiety came be mild or so extreme it affects day to day life. I had anxiety as a teenager and in my early 20s. I had it pregnant with my daughter too.

I'd say the referral Is more just to be cautious than that you're definitely in need of it. There's a chance anxiety can worsen during pregnancy. Though why the consultant wouldn't think to mention this to you I don't know, seems he should have. It could also be up to your midwifes discretion and just a possible recommendation for her. Then up to her to assess you after seeing you through your pregnancy. Certainly ask them about it to ease your mind. Is it possible the 34 week check is actually the psychiatrist? But Id not stress to much over it xx

Possibly but it's the fact he discharged me then I see the physciatrist n9te. If he said I need to see him for further appointments I'd understand but I haven't. It's really wound me up and more so because I can ask until Weds. At no point did we even discuss my anxiety so he can't refer me to physciatrist without himself talking ro me about it, it's waste of resources. Someone else would benefit. I'm fine. I'm pissed off, but mentally I'm more in control then ever been.
