Question about midwife appoiments

I ended up going to hospital last night due to baby giving me scare (shes fine we heard heart heart beat etc ), saw a few midwife's and doctors all were very confused why I haven't had any urine samples up till then and why I hadn't seen midwife since 16 weeks. How many times are you meant to see midwife, and are you meant to have regular urine samples checked? Thank you

Hmmmmm I'm 15 weeks tommorrow. Haven't even met my midwife yet, just some random midwife at my booking in appointment which turned out not to be the one who will be looking after me. I have my first appointment with her next week but I don't envisage seeing her again til whenever the next appointment is. Shold you see them regularly? I've no idea.

On the back of my notes is a list of when you will see the midwife as this is my 2nd child i get to see her
Booking in appointment 8 weeks ish
16 week appointment
28 week appointment
34 week appointment
36 week
38week
41 week

Thank you song bird I was told at my booking in appointment (10 weeks) I will be seen at 16 weeks 25 weeks and then just before im due. Was worried last night had tighting pains and baby went quiet, I was refereed to another hospital as I have moved and haven't got set midwife at mo they were amazing within half an hour they checked baby's heart beat, good job I went in as had blood test and iron levels very low. Got new midwife Monday at different hospital lets hope se will be better

i had booking at 8, bloods at 12, more bloods on thursday and 16 week appt x Dont know when my next ones will be but I have to give a urine sample every time i see her xx

Midwife should be checking your urine each time you see her, she's clearly not doing her job hun. I have read on here that some girls have to call to make the next appointment, maybe thats why you haven't seen her? Mine always makes my next appointment when I see her

thanks for reply pinkymum my appointments are made at last appoiment I called at 20 weeks to see if I needs any bloods/urine tests or needed to see her she said no. Will check with new midwife when she plans to see me etc

Hmm thats sounds a bit odd to me chick..

I would def check with new midwife, and I know you're meant to see the Midwife several times throughout x

The only reason I'm getting more bloods done though is because they couldn't get the nuchal measurements from the back of babys neck at my 12 week scan - so got to get the blood tests for downs x

Then after my 16 week, I get my scan, and a midwife checkup at the hospital x

Then I think its 25 weeks x Not sure x

with my first i saw her her either once or twice before my 12 wk scan, then at 16 wks then it was every 4 weeks till bout 28 wks then went to three weeks, then 2 weeks then weekly, and yh they should of tested ur waters at each appointment butthey havent dont worry

I had my booking in appointment with one midwife. She took bloods and urine.
I had my 12 week scan last week.
Then I have 16 week scan with different midwife next week.

Other than that, no contact at all. Is that normal? xxx

Thank you for your reply's sounds like I need to chat to new midwife doesn't sound right, problems with being first time mum never no what's meant to happen don't no what I do without this forum

they should be checking urine at every appointment. We have to collect a sample pot as we leave our appointments ready for the next one.
I missed my urine sample at my 16 week appointment because i forgot to take it with me but as i was seeing the consultant 2 days later she said it was fine.
I keep thinking its ages since i have seen a midwife but to know they are on the end of a phone if i need them is good.

The hospital wasn't happy at the no urine samples, looked in my nhs book and they say it should be done, random question when I see new midwife is it ok to ask her about c section or do I have to wait till closer to the time

Hi I've only had my booking in at 8 wks, and a 16 wk apt then I don't see a midwife again until 24 weeks, I've had my urine checked at both my booking in and 16 wks but only had bloods done at my booking in. I've also had a different midwife on each apt and am apparantly seeing another different one at my 24 wk apt!!!! Doesn't feel like I have midwife!!!!

this just reminded me that my mw's had never said about brining urine sample! couldnt give one at booking so had to give two at 16weeks and that was a different mw to the one i had at booking! when i went 2weeks ago i got shouted at for not brining urine sample, but didnt ever get told to bring one! she said i have to bring one to every appointment and they will give you the used bottle back to save using to many . . . must remember to do one for next appointment!

hi, this is my fist baby, so learning as i go! when do you get to hear the baby's heart beat? i have my next MW appt next week, i'll be 18 weeks, had the booking in and bloods appts, had to do urine samples for both, but i keep seeing people mention hearing the HB with the doppler at their MW appt.... will that be me at my next scan or do i have to wait a little longer? Also, i know this may be a silly question also.... but do MW ever do internal checks, or just measurements etc? never know what to be prepared for..... i assume in a few weeks she will start measuring the belly/baby.... but that is all i know..... gosh i really am a newbie!

Hi Hun, blood pressure n wee should be done ever time with out fail u see the midwife, it's to check ur not starting with pre eclempsea or how ever u spell it, heat beat they usually listen from 16 week app n measure bump 26 week app may be sooner, can u ask if it's ur first what u r asking about c section for?
I'm under the impression u could ask for one but chances r unless for medical reason or previous section u would nor get one, if it's from fear of labor they will just surges't concealing I've had a previous section with first little boy n they are trying to convince me to have a normal delivery this time, I think a normal birth cost them 300 pound were as a section cost 3000 that's y x x x in my circumstance I can have section if I want n I'm seeing my mw after 32 weeks to discus x
