hi i was wondering if any of you are or have for previous babies blending your own food for babies rather than using jars of baby food, and what sort of food do you make?

im thinking of doing this for my LO when the time comes x

Nobody uses jars here, we make chicken soup, meat and different varieties of vegetables, purre fruits etc. Cheaper and healthier.

I was gonna home make stuff too. Make some big batches and freeze etc.

I'm planning on using the baby led feeding method and def home cooked stuff. Think there are various recipes in the parenting section.

i will be making my own-my sister made her own and said its easier and cheaper! the only time my sister used jars was for giving them puddings.

ill be making my own too but is it safe to frezze and does anyone any good recipe books? heard theres some good ones out there x

I made all my own stuff with Lennon and plan to again this time. In the early days I just did plain steamed fruit and veg and mixed it with baby rice, then I progressed onto making 'meals', either our own food blended up (with no salt in) like spag bol, shepherds pie, roast dinners, stews etc or I made big batches of stuff from the Annabelle Karmel cook books which I froze which was handy when Lennon couldn't eat what we were having or if we were out and about. I also let him have a lot of finger foods which he really enjoyed.

I found the AK cook books absolutely fantastic and Lennon loved most of the food I cooked from there. They are pretty easy and nutritious.

Planning on baby led weaning, so not planning to puree at all. Therefore we'll be doing home cooked foods for pickle.

I can recomend doing your own purees , stage 2 mashy lumpier ones and then finger foods, sooo expensive the shop ones, and I don't fancy some of those jars, they look like they are filled with Jelly or glue!!

I did tradional weaning and have a freezer full of purees in icecubes , It's really nice and flexible to be able to grab a selection of flavours to make up a meal , eg mash pot, sweet potatoe mash or rice , perhaps pea, aubergine, celeriac, sweede, spinich , carrot etc and then grab a protien like chicken and sweetcorn, or beaf casserole or perhaps a cheese sauce , etc Now that Devon is 7 months and getting bedtter with lumpier foods I am going to continue like this. I have three older kids, and we make pizza one night a week, and some of our meals may be too salty for him to join in on eg chinease stirfry etc and I would have a right job to get my older ones to eat Asparagus, celeriac and spinich etc!!
