I've just been for my 24 week check, the heartbeat is really strong, she's rather large but I knew that already and very lively so everything seems fine with Jade. My urine though has protein in it so the midwife is sending it off for analysis, I'm not too worried but a little concerned as I never had this with Ryan and wondered what it could mean and whether or not any of you have had the same.

Thanks

when i was at hospital once they said there was protein in my urine and got me to do another sample which they sent to the lab, im presuming everything was fine, as it was never mentioned again!

Oh thanks. She did say to me to go back in a week just after I'd had a shower as that can make a difference. I told her I'd only just had a bath before coming, I'm not some smelly minger who doesn't bath or shower every day, lol. So she said there wouldn't be any bacteria from my flaps.

a lot of women have protein in there urine, unless ur midwife is worried then dont worry hun!

OK thanks, I'll try not to. :) She told me to eat more red meat, I didn't think we were meant to. I told her she can buy me beef as I can't afford it.

nice bit of steak courtesy of the midwife ;) haah

Yeah maybe I could go to the social and tell them my midwife insists I need to eat rump steak every day and that they have to pay. :rotfl:

this answer was on ask a midwife page

have protein in my urine. What does this mean?

Having protein in the urine could be due to a urinary infection .It is important to have your midwife check this out.

I had some when I was in hosp and was asked if i had any pain peeing which i didn't it just went away

Hi

I had this every checkup with Kiara but my doc said as long as i have no dicomfort then it was fine, i have this with my pregnancy now as well. and he isnt worried as well, im sure its fine hun

I've had trace protein in my wee since 2nd tri too.

I think that if you get some discharge  in your sample then this can show up as protein which is maybe why she suggested the shower???
Not that a shower's going to prevent anything coming out but maybe that's why?

Anyway, as long as it's just a trace it's nothing to worry about. They'll just probably keep an eye on things.

Good luck!

Have you had your results yet? I didn't think to ask how long it took.

Nope - they said they would ring me if there was a problem - had my appointment last thursday and they said it would take a week - perhaps I should ring tomorrow to be sure....

 Thank god I`m not alone !!
I went to the midwife today and she routinely checked my urine and found protein in it and I was worrying a bit. :( She has sent mine off to be checked too. I HATE waiting for results, but having read my book II think its a sign of a urine infection which i spose can be easily treated.
I`m soooo glad that i have you lot on here for reasurance at times like this, good to know I`m not alone in the protein urine club !!

Ha ha the things we have to ask at this time eh. Loose all of our dignity! I don't like waiting either but I guess if it was a risk to the baby or us then we'd know sooner.

Exactly - if your protein was high they would've whipped you in for more checks straight away!
