Probably a silly question!

Was thinking about stuff I need to get over next few weeks, not just for baby but for me too and was wondering, are maternity towels the same as sanitary towels?

I always use tampons, have done since my first period as I hate big bulky things, they make me itch and I feel like everyone can see them and I'm pretty sure you can't use tampons, I know I was told not to last time so used them horrible nappy like things!

To be honest I don't have a clue, but at the hospital they just gave me sanitary towels and that's what I've been using... Seem fine to me :) xx

I bought some maternity towels and think tbh they are more like incontinence pads...they are mahoosively thick. Like wearing a cushion on your bum!

Interesting question, i'd like to know the answer to this too, as i really hate sanitary towels, they make e feel dirty!

I think maternity towels are like a thicker version... OH made me buy some before he went away (just in case I went into early labour while he was away - oh the paranoia) and I was so shocked there were only 10 in the pack because it was so thick!

I hate them as well, I've always used tampons because I find sanitary towels too itchy and really uncomfortable, especially when I'm sat down, and I'm guessing after I've had LO I'll want to stay seated for a while!

That's the bit I'm really dreading, the after labour part! I know labour won't be a walk in the park, but the after bit does not sound appealing, and the thought of wearing the thickest sanitary towels ever (definitely more like incontinence pads) does not help at all!

xx

Maternity pads are really thick pads, I only bought a small box and bought packs of normal pads because I thought that's all I would need, but I'm sticking to the maternity ones for longer because I had stitches, its much more comfortable for me! X

Maybe worth buying both types of pad then and see how things go and how I feel then. Def dreading the after aches and pains more than labour!

This time i just bought Kotex sanitary towels but for me the super size because my bleeding has been heavy after my boys. With my first my mum had bought me some maternity towels from boots but they where horrible, the material was very rough against my bits, i had a graze so they wernt the best x

i used ordinary sanitary towels until it slowed down then i used tampons as long as you change them regulalry (TMI) then risk of infection is low, and materity pads are like walking round with a mattress between your legs lol xxx

Yeah chick, maternity pads are different as they are alot thicker. I had 4 one on top of the other & plastic pants after my 1st was born, had terrible bleeding. If you didn't have alot of bleeding you'd probably get away with sanitary towels.

It also depends if and where you get cut, i'd imagine it would be pretty horrific to use a tampon, my cuts were quite low down...arrggghhh the thought of all that again!

Ouch! I hadn't thought about tearing, tampons could be very painful!

Yeah i've got 2 packs of the maternity pads and they're proper thick. I got mine from tesco, in the baby aisle thing lol.

I got one pack of thick ones and a pack of slim ones plus I have some normal ones, will see how it goes I guess. I am a tampon girl as well so the thought of pads terrifies me!
