OH and I are getting very tempted to just pay for fully private treatment. This whole run around with the NHS is stressing me out and my cycles are worse when stressed. We are getting to where we would rather just pay and try get our sticky bean on the way quicker than battle with the NHS. We worked out the last 16 months we've spent about 800 pounds + on different supplements, fertility lubes and my many preg and ov tests. I'd rather just pay a clinic lol.
I was wondering if anyone had gone private and how much consultations are initially + cycle monitoring etc.
And what your experiences where really?
What happened on your first appt? How long did you wait etc?
Our nearest clinic is the London womens in darlington xxx

We are considering going private too, we need ovulation induction so nothing too major. Initial consultation is £200, each follow up consultation is £140. The actual drugs (I would be starting with clomid) are very little, under £20 per cycle I'm led to believe as I've not had this confirmed yet. I would also need tracking scans, I don't know how much these are at our local clinic but there is a place nearby who offer this for people having treatment abroad and they charge £150 per cycle no matter how many scans you need.

As we have already had the tests that have determined what we need I think we would 'get away' with having one initial consultation, one cycle of tracking and one lot of drugs for under £400. I assume subsequent cycles would be less provided the tracking scans showed the correct dose as you wouldn't need those again. It is very tempting to go for at that cost but I'm worried if we do go private and it doesn't work we can't afford to keep going, so should therefore wait get as many cycles as we can on the NHS and then go private when the NHS funds have run out.

Thats the thing - we think should we just wait it out? But we're having such a problem even getting referred I am really close to just saying F it and just paying to go private instead. We potentially wont be referred until next April when I'm 23 because of age guidelines theyre funny about. I know I'm young and could just be patient but I have some savings there and I think I'd rather just go for it and hope for the best. They can do the initial consultation in a few days according to the website.
It is so so tempting to just do it isn't it.
Just under 400 pounds is really good and hopefully thats all you would need :D
Theres such a lot of stake though like you say having to keep paying and paying and it not working.
I've emailed them about consultation cost etc. We are in that area visiting family anyway this weekend so say if they had an appt late this week/early next week we would be v.v.v tempted lol!! Xxx

I too have decided to consider this route. I am currently waiting to find out whether I have been accepted on to a university course or not, which really decides my fate. If I have then we will be starting the private treatment in 2 years time. I ovulate, just not regularly enough apparently so I too would just need clomid and one consultation. I am thinking If I assume it'll be around £1000 I should have a little change. It seems like such a small price to pay. Especially since the NHS people won't see me until I have lost weight (ironically, my periods are more regular when I'm my normal weight, not lower!)

If I don't get on to that course it may come a little earlier for us. Hubby is on board with completely boycotting NHS too.

I'm thinking the same with the around £1000 and hoping for some change left over as think I'd just need Clomid also.
NHS just have so many hoops to jump through don't they and takes so much time! I'm very near to the bmi cut off for treatment also! I'd hate to finally get my referral then them to reject me on that!
Good luck about the uni course :D
Xx

Thanks...it's a teaching course! I had to sit English, Maths & Science tests and the Science was unbelievably difficult! I just hope I guessed the correct amount

I also have a heart shaped womb so I don't know whether they'd make me give more money to 'investigate' that...even though the NHS doctor (who was hopeless) said it makes no difference to TTC! Errrrrrrrr, I googled lady and it does!

haha sorry for my rant! x

Ooh a teaching course sounds great :).got my fx for you!
Ooh could you maybe have investigations done through the gynae department about your womb shape? .i've not had a hsg so I'm not sure whether id have to pay private for that lol!

Dont worry rant away :) haha docs can be useless! Really annoys me when you tell them theres an issue and they dismiss it.
I think thats why id rather pay to go private.. so I'm actually listened too haha . Plus I don't want to have to do all the nhs waiting rubbish and battle with them to refer me xxx

Hi girls, hubby and I went private last year due to just awful hopeless consultations and no input or help what so ever!

We have had very good service privately and things do move quickly, I know you have to pay but it makes the whol stressful process so much easier !!

We saw the consultant july/august time, got married honeymoon etc september, started our treatment october. The whole process has been quick, smooth and efficient, the clinic is private and small, collection was done in the private hospital with private room and bits so made it all a lot nicer.

I cant remember how much initial consultation was i think it was around £200 then each consultant discussion was £100, the ICSI package was £3800 and then on top of that was the medications. I think all in was maximum around £4400 including meds but not counting the two or three consultations but scans and tracking and collection all of that was in the package xxx

Thanks so much for your reply :)
It all does sound so much less stressful. The NHS I feel is a constant battle and chase up. And loads of waiting and faffing about jumping through hoops to meet guidelines lol

I've booked an initial consultation for the 10th April and it was £150 so we are really happy with that :D o excited now xxx
