Hi everyone!

Am new to all this so I apologise if I do things wrong. I have just found out I am pregnant for the very first time and am 6 weeks (from last period). :) I just wondered if anyone could clear some things up for me...

When should I book an appointment to first see my GP? Looking on the internet, the advice varies hugely and am getting slightly confused.

Also I am overweight (by a couple of stone) and everyone is shaking their heads at me saying the doctors will give me a grilling for it so just wondered if others had gone through anything similar...

Thank-you in advance for any advice you can offer...hope to speak to you soon xxx

 and welcome and congrats
I would register with the MW as soon as possible, most see u between 8-12 weeks generally, I think it depends on ur area, whether u see the Dris ur personal preference, most won't confirm the pregnancy, just congrats, are u taking folic acid and register with the mw...

As to ur weight, the mw should offer u advice on this but I wouldn't worry too much until u have seen her, I think the advice is not to do anything drastic to reduce weight, just healthy diet and gentle exercise... but wait and see what ur mw says

hope this hels and good luck :flower:

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.
Will pop into the docs this week and see what they say...
Congratulations to you by the way...how are things progressing with you?

 Welcome and Congrats :D

Things vary depending on your practice so the easiest thing to do is ring the GP and ask them. Some GPs like to see you and others (like mine) will book you in with the MW straight away :)

probably not the best person to ask if ur worried as had a MC in October, but the symptoms have really kicked in in the last 3 days :) so feeling a little bit easier(ish)

I see my MW on 7th January, so wishing away the weeks at the minute. How are u feeling?

Hi and welcome! I'm overweight and neither my GP nor my midwife have even mentioned it so far. In fact, I haven't even been weighed. Maybe I should have been? Ooooh I think I just found a new thing to worry about.

I just booked a GP appointment the day after I had a positive home test. But he didnt do anything to confirm it, just said congrats, quit the 10k charity run I was training for (what a SHAME!) and take folic acid. In hindsight I could probably have just walked in and told the receptionist that I was pregnant as I was sent back out to get a form from her to refer myself to the midwife and she gave me a pack of info.

Good luck, try not to worry too much hun, you'll only find more and more things to fret over which turn out to be fine in the end anyway...not that I can talk, Im turning into a full time worrier!

Awe, so sorry to hear that! My friens has suffered about 9 mc so I understand to a degree how devastating they are.

On the positive side, there is only four days between us so we are going through the same things! At the moment I have been feeling really shattered and also I have had quite a lot of tummy ache - similar to period pains (but when I have spoken to my neighbour who is nurse she said that can be a very common effect).

Fingers crossed for both of us then and I hope we can stay in touch and compare notes hehe  xxx

definately, u have found a good site to help u with any worries... or like Tiny acquire new ones

 hello! I saw my doctor at almost 6 weeks, he was really really nice and asked me to book in with the MW which I did and am seeing this week when I will be 8 weeks. I wouldnt listen to anyone who mentions your weight - firstly how rude of them! The MW will probably just tell you to eat healthily in order to not gain excessive weight during your pregnancy. Good luck! :)

Hello Rosie's mummy!

Thanks, I will pop in this week to book an appointment with him. Congratulations to you by the way, how are you feeling so far? x

How do you do the pregnancy ticker thing?
I know I'm probably being a bit thick but it just won't work for me... I followed the site and got the image and countdown piccy, then it gave you a long code. Where does this code go?

Hi Rakrak - my nausea and tiredness have gone to new heights this week, I have also been having stretching pains quite a lot at different times. I have also gone off green veg completely, something that happened when I was pregnant with my daughter although I think that this is just the beginning as last time I went off all salad, fruit and veg until my 2nd trimester. It used to make me heave if I ate anything like it. Otherwise I feel ok, still very thirsty so drinking lots of water! What about you? How are you feeling? :)

Hi Rakrak and welcome, think the ladies have covered all the points just wanted to say hi and good luck

the bb code goes into the signiture section in the User CP list :)

Hi all!

I'm okay. Have had some tummy pains and have to keep rushing to the loo but other than that I'm feeling okay. One good thing to come about though is that I am not as hungry as normal. I'm not feeling sick or anything but I'm just not as interested (which is a good thing as I could do with losing a few pounds hehe).

I am full of a cold though and there is nothing to take that touches the sides. The only thing the pharmasist could recommend was paracetamol or some honey and lemon cough syrup. I am just drinking loads of hot drinks (no wonder I'm alwats rushing to the loo) and having loads of warm bubble baths!

x

I got my positive test on 17th December - saw the doc on Christmas Eve - he said he was new and wasn't sure what he had to do next but he'd look in to it after we'd left - now im panicking that he will have forgotten!

Hi Rakrak, I was also worried about what the midwife would say about my weight, the only thing she said was that I might be refered to the hospital who would then refer me back to her. I wouldnt worry too much about it, relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

no i'm not letting myself get too caught up with it all. am just gonna try and cut out eating the crap. i'm just so thirsty all the time now...i'm drinking pints of water like its going out fashion!

congratulations! he won't have forgotten but if you haven't heard anything in a couple of weeks then just ring up and gently remind him. I've still not been to the doctors yet myself. i've been full of a cold for the last few days but will get an appointment booked in the new year x
