Hello Ladies I am nearly 31 and have a gorgeous 3 year old little girl. I was diagnosed recently with polycystic ovaries and have been put on metformin. We are trying to conceive but was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with this all. started metformin one week ago. thanks in advance ladies :)

My GP wouldn't prescribe me Metaformin for some reason - but I personally know someone with PCOS who was prescribed, and fell pregnant three months in. From what I have read it seems very good

Hiya,
I also have pco, like kitty my consultant also won't allow me to try metformin, not sure why as so many ladies with pco seem to have success with it. Good luck!

I take metformin 1000mg in morning and 1000mg at night...Been on it 4 5years and it's regulated my cycle from having af 4-5 times a year 2 having 29-34 day cycles...I'm now on clomid so combined fingers crossed it works x

Thanks Ladies for your replies. Lau24 - I was told to increase my metformin to 1000mg after a week so i took 2x500mg together and it made me feel really ill! so yesterday i took one 500 in the morning and one in the evening....are you supposed to take them together? x

It didn't affect me how I took it 1st of all I was on 500 which was once a day then it got upped to 1500 so I took 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and 1 in the evening...but now I'm on 2000 so he just told me to take 2 in the morning and 2 at night...like all medication it affects people differently and does take time to get in your system...I had headaches when I first started taking it but now I'm fine and don't get any side effects now.

If I missed any pills my cycle would be longer xx

Hi ladies, I also have pcos and take metformin three times a day after a week I got a bad stomach following that I have been fine, initially I was asked to buy a supplement called inofolic that anyone can buy on the internet I saw a different consultant to get metformin it takes about three months to get into your system properly hope that helps xx

Hi, I have polycystic ovaries but only found out from the IUI scans. I haven't had a proper PCOS diagnosis and the doctor won't put me on metformin or clomid (even though clomid helped when I was on it). The medics always say, "Well, you don't look like you have PCOS so it won't work" but I bleed for a week before my period each month and can't get pregnant. Not even sure I am ovulating properly.

Currently on cinnamon and chromium picolinate supplements (apparently it helps control your blood sugar if you are insulin resistant - like met, which is worth a try even in lean PCOS). I am going to try Dim Plus when it comes as my hormones are all over the place. I have found exercise and a low carb diet have helped a little.
