My SIL has just told me that once the babies born she's going to come around everyday to see the baby but I said I didn't want visitors everyday to start off with and she seemed abit annoyed!
When I had DD I had visitors everyday and I felt like a had to fake smile through the tiredness! My other SIL came around every night about 9pm which was awful as I should've been putting DD to bed then but had to entertain her instead!
This time I've decided I don't mind visitors for 30mins to an hour but not constantly everyday! I want to bond with the baby first!
Am I right for upsetting my SIL?

I think you are right. Although I have no experience of this yet me and DH have already decided that visits will be limited to start with so we can get to know our baby and I can recover!

I have already told my OH that i am going to have a routine and that no one will be welcome without contacting first. I am not even sure that i want people visiting in hospital!

Family members have to remember that you need your rest/alone time when baby is napping...they should respect and understand this.

Just put your foot down...or do what my mum did and stick the babes routine on the cot, that way everyone can see that baby is not to be disturbed.

Bloody right! Sorry to her but she has no say in this! Does she have kids? Dont feel bad about putting her off

I agree totally, I like the visits in hospital as OH never could stay long when he came as had tiny kids in tow!
but once home, I had my own slow routene and i saw friends etc only when I went out with the pushchair in those early couple of weeks , my home was off limits. Luckily all my family are spreadout and friends were all good with this. you stick to your guns, this is your special time

Thank you guys!! I got post natal depression with DD and I'm sure some of it was the fact people always wanted to come around but I needed time to myself too! I don't mind people visiting but maybe when baby is a week old and not for long! It's such a tiering time and I've still got DD to look after too!
I'm def putting my foot down this time!!

You're right! You need time to bond with your new baby and limit the visitors per day that's what I'm intending on doing because when you're enetertaining people for 8-12 hours a day it is rather tiring along with tending to a newborn!

I think you're right hun.. There is nothing worse than having to do the whole smiling thing when you are sore and tired.. Has she any children? Before I had Odhrán I may have been guilty a few times of doing it  But I wouldn't dare now because I know what it's like.. I really do think you have a fair point x

Actually this is something that just came up in conversation at my antenatal class yesterday. MW was talking about laying ground rules and having OH about to make sure people weren't staying too long, one of the girls had a 30 minute rule in the house until she was ready to go out and meet people. Another had FOB take the baby away to change them or whatever, but was generally enough to get people moving! I too was probably a bit guilty of staying a bit too long with friends but def read the signs. If you're clear from the outset it'll save more stress of upsetting people when you should be focussing on your family!!

Your completely right. You will have just given birth. The last thing you want to be doing is entertaining guests
xx

i think you're within you're right to deny any visitors after baby is born, even if that will be your SIL. she sounds similar to mine. i'm quite cautious she's gonna try and take over. but we just have to remember, we're the mum and we have the say! lol. if she loves you (that sounds like i'm saying she doesn't, but it's not meant to i'm sure she does! lol ) she'll soon respect the decision you've made. :) xxx
