Hi everyone,

Just wondering if any of you ladies can help.
On Thursday morning I woke up and felt like I had been hit by a truck and it had reversed back over me again. My left side of my throat was very sore and was hard to swallow, then I vomited. As the day went on I started to get freezing but was hot in fact I was purple.

This continued throughout the night along with a very very sore head and a stiff neck. Yesterday was even worse. I continued to vomit even with just water and this was near impossible to swallow. I rang GP he prescribed me penicillen as he said it sounded like a bacterial throat infection.

Anyway, as soon as something hits my tummy it is up within 5 minutes. TMI sorry. I have stopped taking them.

I am sitting here so thirsty - not hungary at all, haven't eaten in 3 days - my lips are huge with sores, they are dry, my head feels like it is going to explode. Instead of swallowing I am spitting out - it really is pure agony to swallow.

I am so so sorry to moan, but just wondered if anyone had any advice? I am very scared with being pregnant but also with how ill I am.

Thank you all

get yourself to the GP asap or go to your primary care centre. you need to be seeen and to get some fluids and iv antibiotics in you.

i would call up nhs direct now, and speak to them. esp with you being preggerrs.

hope you feel better soon.

god thata really worrying, keep us updated.x take care.

Oh hun

I have just got over something very similar and it really does feel so much worse when you are pregnant :(

When I was vomiting really bad I phoned up NHS Direct and the nurse advised me to suck an ice cube (if you have any) as drinking water may just cause more vomiting.
Have you rung NHS Direct hun? They might be able to give you some advise as you sound really poorly.

Remember not to take any tablets, only paracetamol is usually allowed (please check still with your doctor) I was also told not to take Lemsip if it contained Menthol, but again check with doctor.

Try just wetting your mouth with water hun and please let us know how you get on.

jesus! you sound so so poorly!

PLEASE call NHS direct like star suggested hun. Do you have someone looking after you?

xx

Call your GP and get someone to come out and see you if you are this poorly.

Failing that call NHS Direct, but really, get yourself seen by someone soon.
If you are not able to keep the meds down they are not going to be working so you need to get something sorted soon.

Really hope you sought medical advice and are feeling much better Keano_Forever, very best wishes

how are you feeling today? it really sounds like tonsillitis i get this about twice a year and it can really floor you. Last year i was the same i couldnt swallow my own saliva when i went to my gp she had a look at me and send me to hospital, this was without me being pregnant, you really need someone to look at you, if you are the same today i really think you should get seen, sometimes you can develop a cyst on the side of your throat that needs to be lanced, and this infection really needs antibiotics if you cant take them oral you will need to go and get them iv.

p.s keep drinking small bits it will be less painful the more you take

Hello everyone,

I am so sorry for not replying, I have literally been wiped out since I last posted. I am currently waiting on the DR ringing me, he is on an emergency callout.

I rang NHS Direct, they advised to keep trying with the penicillen, and suck ice cubes - as advised on here. I treied 2 more tablets but I had to stop as I could'nt cope with the vomiting anymore.

Today, I have not vomited - thank goodness. My headache is relentless and my throat is still raw but not as severe, I am sure the vomiting has not helped. I cannot sleep because as soon as I lay down my head throbs like a rush of blood but continious and my neck aches.

I am going to ring midwife now as I am starting to worry about nutrition for the baby as I last ate on Wednesday. Would the baby be in danger do you think?

Thank you girls for all your support and advice, I really felt so alone and useless even though my partner is here looking after me. I really really appreciate it

Sorry to hear you are not improving

If you cannot get to the Doctor, why not have him come out on a home visit? I'd class you as an emergency GP home visit tbh. And hopefully your MW will come out and see you also.

Bugger waiting for the Doc to phone you and diagnose or advise over the phone. Unless he is calling to arrange when to come see you. If you have been poorly since Wednesday I'd think you need to see someone today and to change drugs etc if not able to tolerate or take them.

Are you possibly allergic to penicillin? Did some of your symptoms start appearing after you started taking the meds? Worth at least thinking about?

Signs and symptoms of penicillin allergy: Most common signs and symptoms of penicillin alergic reactions may include: rashes, hives, itchy eyes, swollen lips, tongue and faces i.e. angioedema.

Some other signs and symptoms may include: wheezing, lightheadedness ,slurred speech, rapid or weaker pulse rate, blueness of skin, lips and nail beds, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.

Hi All
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the girls who gave me advice, I really did feel alone and atdeath's door!!

I am recovering quite well now, though I am physically exhausted and I think my muscles have forgotton how to work!!

I have lost exactly a stone in weight, not good I know. I still don't have an appetite but very thirsty.

Thanks again guys

Glad to hear that you're feeling better now hun

Make sure you keep your fluids up and reintroduce food slowly

So glad you are feeling better

Could you try something liquidly like soup maybe? I agree with Mildly though, maybe if you introduce it slowly it'll be better?

Your immune system is low when you're pregnant - which sucks - but I wouldn't worry about the nutrition, your placenta stores all it needs for the baby. Maybe check with your MW if you are worried.

Again, really pleased you're feeling better. When my throat is sore I suck on ice lollies, might help with the fever too..

..Anyway, hope you're back to your grand ol' self soon!!

xx

Yes soup has been going down a treat, chicken though. Some plain mashed potato's have been received nicely!!

Trying to keep up with my fluids. My lips are still very very sore and crack even when I open my mouth! Am on 2nd tube of cream lol!!

Thank you all again

Ah you're more than welcome

So glad you're feeling better. You'll be back to normal in no time!!

Bet baby's happy you're feeling better too! :D

xx
