Ok I am going to honest.

I have not been taking my Folic Acid. Even when I think I have to take the tablet it makes me feel sick. I have put it in food, and when I have been really thirsty taken it. But when I swallow it, I gag, and I go so stupid like a small child. There not even big, they are tiny.

I feel terrible, and like I am not even starting my baby the right way. Is there any advice you can give me, as to what I can do, as it's starting to worry me.

have u tried crushing it up lol. i am a nightmare with tablets i have t break them up haha! if it makes u feel any better my friend hasnt taken it at all and her baby is fine xx

I didn't really take it either. I started at 7/8 weeks after i had seen the midwife and by 10 weeks, i kept "forgetting". But, i did eat a s**t load of Kellog's crunchy nut cornflakes! All Kellog's cereals are fortified with folic acid, and i ate about 4 servings a day. I felt ill alot and they were all i could stomach and fancied sometimes!

You can get water-soluble folic acid and also as a drink.
Might be worth having a word with your doctor or pharmacist.
I used to forget to take them, but put them where my contraceptive pill used to be so I didn't forget!
X

They make me feel sick so I take it just before I go to sleep and I don't feel to bad xxxx

*whispers* I didn't take mine either.... I was the same, it made me feel really bad on top of horrendous morning sickness. Just have a really good, balanced diet and fortified cereal and you will be fine.

dont worry about neither did i, infact i tried to take it but i was so ill with morning sickness my midwife actually told me to stop taking the folic acid as it wasnt helpping my sickness, from what i remember i didnt take any with my daughter either

I notice that the tablet makes me gag too. It's bizarre. Try not to worry about it hun. x

you can try eating more foods which contain folic acid natrually such as vegetables such as spinach, sprouts, broccoli, green beans, and potatoes. Some bread and breakfast cereals are fortified with folic acid. also brown rice and asparagus. most people are fine without folic acid or with a small dosage there are some of us whos bodies(mine being one of them) which doesnt absorb the folic acid properly and i have a doctors high prescription.

Hey hun i just wanted to put my imput in. When i had my DD i didnt take folic acid as i didnt find out that i was pg untill i was nearly 5months gone. It neaver did my little girl any harm she is healthy and hasnt had any probs. It didnt do her any harm me not taking it.

Get yourself to the GP, they can prescribe it in liquid form :flower:

Ahh thanks girls, you have made me feel so much better about it. x

This is really interesting - is there a link between folic acid and sickness?? I was taking mine in the morning all last week and felt horrendous all day. Stopped taking it in the morning as was scared of throwing it up and not getting the benefit, and started to take it in the evening instead with my main meal, and have noticed over the past few days I now feel much more sick in the evenings!! Could this be the cause?? Will have to move it to just before bed!

Ladies you must take it, take it, take it!!!! But as others have said, get in from your food stuffs if you don't like the tablets.

Anything like this - I always think to myself - if the baby suffered as a result, how bad would I feel?! Not intended to frighten you of course, plenty of women don't find out until they are 3 months + and am sure most of those babies are absolutely fine. xx

same i sick feel sick literally 24/7 atm and everytime i try and take it i heave as i try and swallow and then it takes mank and have to spit it out! i take it like 4 days a week maybe. =/ bad mummy

I used to take mine at night and it was fine then

I'm just ttc atm but getting my folic acid through multivitamins capsules. The ones I was taking before were horrible, but I've changed to Tesco's own Women's Complete vitamins. They have 400 micrograms (the same as prenatal vitamin tablets) of folic acid as well as all the other stuff.
The capsules are squishy, a bit on the large side but seem to go down well with juice. There's no aftertaste so shouldn't affect the nausea.

Give everything a try!!

the reasons you should take it is to prevent anacaphaly and spina bifida it doesnt garentee a healthy baby but gives you a better chance definatly take the pills or eat folic acid rich foods you do need it really xx

You must take your folic acid girls, if you can't take the pills get it in a liquid. It's so so important x

Just thought it was worth a mention.

When I was pregnant with AJ I had to switch pre-natal brands. I was taking pregnacare but it was making me ill. I switched to sanatogen and I was fine :)
