ok so its not really off topic but i didnt really know where to post this..
i didnt realise that the use of pethidine had been banned in some labour wards as it doesnt really help. anyway this was an interesting read esp as i had pethidine when i first arrived at hospital. i was 1cm and 4 and a half hours later i was fully dilated and pushing. i found it brill (although it wore off by my delivery) it wasnt pain relief i still felt every contraction the same but it helped me relax same as gas n air.

i didnt realise so many women had bad experiences of it, till i spoke to some other mums who had it, and when i read this:

i hated it, it done nothing but mad me sick as a pick, gave me terrible belly ache. i was puking up green vile. and there is nothing worse then heaving at 9cm as every time i wrenched the head would come down...... ouchhhhhh sooooooo painfull

I think that's the one I had with Luke, I fell asleep in between each contraction so all I had was pain, and I was really sick and drowsy

I didn't like it either, it made me realy out of it and didn't know what i was doing or saying. Can't remember most of my labour although i did make the 4 hours of pushing seema lot quicker.

This is my first pregnancy so I have no direct experience, but the fact that pethidine affects the baby as well as the mother has put me off the idea of having it.

i had it on my first labour and it made me feel awful i forgot why i was at the hospital couldnt understand why i was in so much pain it didnt help the pains at all i was violently sick and my son was really drowsy for 2 days after the birth i would never have it again
but gas and air bring it on i had just that on 2nd birth and it helped loads xxx

i loved gas and air. it really does make you feel drunk. i remember really wanted to ask the midwife were she got her shoes from but was to embarresed then i had a go on gas and air i was like "ay love, where you get ya shoes from, there lovly" and started telling her how pretty she was

I hated pethidine. I, too, was very sick after having it, and it did nothing for pain relief.

hehe looks like i'm the only one who had a good experience of it!!
good to know coz i dont think i'll have it next time just in case..think i'd be better off with just gas n air!

yeah i want some too.... my OH has never ever drank he wont either no matter how much i try and get him too. i asked him to try gas and air he wouldnt hes a bore!!!!!!!!!!!

but i want gas and air its sooooooo good. did it make any one elses voice go funny? made me sound like a man... and i have a deep voice as it is

i think it was just being in labour that made me sound like a man...you know when your bodies pushing and you roar?? well maybe that was just me? but when i went to scream it came out as a great big roar..lol

wow dionne your oh doesnt drink. i went out with a bloke that didnt drink once he was so unsympathetic to my hangovers..lol

me and my mate fed her mum flavoured vodka once she thought it was vimto and got smashed it was hilarious she was like "claire n fran i'm meant to be meeting my friend, i cant go anywhere in this f*ing state"

lmao thats what i'm like now if i go out and OH stays in, i come back and try to act sober as not to annoy him or say something stupid but usually its given away by the lap dancing round the bedroom at 3 in the morning thinking i'm sexy..falling all over the place breaking the room up!!!
