was speaking to mum last night and the subject of names came up, we've decided on a boys name but not a girls (although we have a couple of favs) she really hated them both, she'd never be rude enough to say but just igonored them and started suggesting others instead!!!

He he, cant be too upset she's being going nuts buying stuff for the baby cant wait to see my folks at easter!

We have kept our fav names secret for this reason. When you announce the name after the baby is born they can hardly turn round and say yuk can they? We've had a few strongly suggested though, he he.

oohh, no, not telling anyone ours! Learnt from seeing it happen to others- they tell and then people are so rude and say 'isn't that the name of a cow/dog/porn star'!! I'm not going through that- will announce the name when baby is here and then they'll not be able to say a thing!

I wouldn't tell anyone your name choices - just inform them the baby is born then they can't say anything

Yeah that's the reason we're keeping quiet too! In fact I have been dropping really bizarre names into conversation that I wouldn't ever choose just to amuse myself with other people's reactions :D

I havent really discussed names with anybody other than my sister but we havent settled on anything yet. I love the name Ellie Mai but my sister wants that name for her next baby IF she has another one which bugs me a bit but it took many years for me and my sister to bond through a hard childhood so I'm not prepared to upset her over a name lol.

The only other problem I'm having is whatever names I like my hubby dislikes and vice versa :rotfl: He likes Charles and I don't mind that as we can shorten it to Charlie. I love the name Dylan but he doesnt like that saying baby will get called Dill so we're still working on things :rotfl:

It took me and OH a long time to decide on names, I prefered more unusual names whereas he prefers more traditional names. It didn't help that the other teachers in the staff room would make comments like 'oh you could never call your baby ****, do you remember we had someone with that name and he did this and he did that'

:shhh: I discussed our baby's name with my parents last night and they were all eurgh... Have defo decided to not tell them the names of any future children until they're born.

Our baby's name was decided at 5 weeks and if anyone hates it, tough!

Luckily most people have been positive but my brother (of course) says it's a hideous name and too old-fashioned

We just decided to keep our choice of names private. Mainly as no one knows the sex and we think giving people a bit of a surprise with sex and name is nice.

So many of my friends told me the sex and their names that when their LO arrived all that was left to ask was 'How much did s/he weigh?' Always seemed like an anticlimax in a way. Hence us keeping quiet.

Also I adore the names we have chosen. OH does also and we did all our research and so on and decided we made the right choice and have back ups also :) Doesn't really worry me if others like it or not. Its not like we are calling our LO Superman or Princess Tiaamii. Any kid with something that daft is going to have a lot to live up to. Or live down

Weve still got a choice of 2 and not sure which :)

Luckily noone has said anything bad...

That's like me and DH he prefered traditional names but I said no unusual ones (I have an unusual first name he has a traditinal first name) and he actually came up with the first names see below which are different.

Someone asked us the other day what names we have chosen and he said we aren't telling anyone, only I didn't know that and have been telling people oops

Just read something in Myleen Klass' book that she was told the name you choose should be suitable for a lawyer, musician and a poet. I think the names me and DH have (amazingly!) agreed on suit this- we have an unusual surname too so can be both grown up or creative!

I told people and had the same mindset... My view is "these are the names I will be calling my baby and if you don't like it, it's ok because it's not your child"

It's not nice to hear bad feedback, especially A) from people you don't really know, and B) when you haven't even asked for an opinion! But then I just think they're tactless and need to keep opinions to themselves! For example, my colleague said she didn't like Alfie (my original option) and said it made her want to break into song!?

Family however, for some reason think they have the God given right to discuss the names in detail and say if they don't like them

Either way, they don't have to love the name, just the child :D

My names will be Harley or Evie, and if you don't like it, NUUURRRRRR *pokes tongue out* :moon:

ditto dannii, i dont give a damn what other people think of my name choices, as long as its a name that i love! its no one else buisness, i dont see the point of keeping the names secret so that people dont tell you their real opinion! they will either like it or they wont!

We haven't even thought about names  When I had my son though my mil made comments but that's cos she's a b*tch  She thought we should call Aaron Godfrey or Herman  Not even joking. We named Aaron because it's my dh's middle name which his dad picked for him (his dad died when he was 4) so we thought it would be nice to acknowledge him in some way which we told her and she still turned her nose up at.

I know what you mean, im starting to think its best to keep your name to yourself until you name it...

Until then i tell people our name choices are Bob and Hilda lmao! :rotfl:
