Hoping someone may have advise for me...
About 2 weeks ago I make a transfer from my PayPal account to my bank account, only I used the wrong sort code, so now my money is sat in someone else's account!!!
I rang PayPal who gave me the faster payment reference number and told me to contact my bank and there was nothing else they could do! I rang my bank (natwest) who say they can not help me over the phone and I need to go into my branch. I go into my branch and explain myself over and over to 3 different people!! Who all kind of shook their heads saying they don't think that they can do anything!!! was told to come back later to see the bank manager, I explain yet again this time to the manager, she say she will see what she can do and takes all my details - this was nearly two weeks ago! I rang yesterday and explained again to someone at my bank, but the manager was not available, so she took my details and said someone would call me back! I'm still waiting!
I'm so fed up which all this and explaining over and over to different people! I just want my money.
Anyone any advise?

Sorry, no advice but didn't want to read & run!
Hope the bank ring you back soon & you manage to get your money back xx

Hey Hun.

Whenever I have transferred money to any accounts whether it be another bank, a company bank or PayPal. It asks me do I want to transfer when I click yes it then says the payment cannot be stopped, amended or retrieved.

So I'm not sure if they can get your money back?

I know we all make mistakes, it's easy with numbers too but the way they see it, you confirmed the transfer with the wrong sort code, so they'r no obliged to pay money back that wasn't their error.

I don't agree with it, hope u get it sorted xxxx

I know I agree I think my chances are not good! It didn't give any warning just said charges may occur if number are incorrect!

I'm just so annoyed that my £200 is sat in someone else's account!!!

If I'm right they contact the account holder for permission to transfer it back, don't know what happens if they refuse tho.

We get this at work, for us if they refuse to give it back we can't force them and we're out of pocket as need to pay the correct account

Well the other day my SIL gave me her acc num to put in some money and she added too many 9s and I said I think she's put one too many 9s so I gave her what I thought was the right one and I asked if she could confirm the name she said no and if it is the wrong account I won't be able to get it back so was I sure I wanted to transfer - luckily it was the right one. But the bank cs adviser had says she wouldn't be able to stop amend or retrieve it once it's left my bank so it was my risk. May differ from banks, I'm with Halifax xxxx
