Hi Ladies,

Just wondering if any of you have been to anti - natal classes or the above which mine are called Parentcraft classes?

I personally have not because we have NCT in our area but one of my collegues have and she and her hubby loved them. She has met some fab couples and she learnt a lot. x

We are doing the NCT antenatal classes and we love them. Have met some lovely people and got so much info from the classes. I think it's been especially beneficial to my OH and has meant he's a lot less anxious about what could happen at the birth xxx

We started our NHS antenatal classes two weeks ago. We have three sessions on pregnancy, normal labour and assisted labour/c-sections, one on feeding and life with baby, and a tour of the maternity unit with a baby bathing demonstration. The ones I've had so far have been good - one of the husbands there is a farmer and referred to milking his cows when asking stuff about breastfeeding. Priceless. Everyone we've met has been really nice - there's a big mix of people with all sorts of backgrounds. We have no NCT classes near us, so I'm just doing what's on offer from the NHS. It's lovely to have something my hubby can get involved with, and it's funny watching him learn stuff that I've known for ages... x

Just a quick one, sorry Amylize!
When do we start ante natal classes!?

When do we start ante natal classes!?

My NCT ones start next week and I will be 28 weeks.... We have one NHS class for 2 hours availible in our area and that is in the first week of July....

Karen.... your NHS ones sound brilliant!! xx

Mine start next tuesday! We have two sessions at 1 hour 30 mins long...

xx

Mine are called parentcraft too and we have 6 two hour sessions to which only the mummy's go (however I think daddy's can go too if they want) I've been to 3 classes already. So far we've done signs of labour, pain relief options and 'infant nutirition' which touched on breast feeding a formula feeding. Tomorrow the whole class focuses on breast feeding. Last week we also went across to labour room to look around and the midwife gave us ideas of how to use the bed in different positions when in labour. Each week we have a small relaxation CD and also a cup of tea and time for a chat with the other mums. I love the classes.

I'm doing the NHS parent craft classes, purely because of the cost of the NCT ones. We have four two our classes plus a tour of the labour ward, I assume they are a similar format to those that have been described before. Looking forward to DH getting involved and hearing all about it from a professional and not just the stuff I spout at him :)

Mine start 5th June, so not long.

xxx

We did the NHS ones and the NCT ones, I much preferred the NCT ones as it gave us more information than the NHS ones but that sounds like this is just my area that it is pants :)

xx

I did NCT classes with my DD, they were excellent. I was also meant to do NHS ones but my DD came early - the day before they were due to begin!

This time round we haven't been offered NHS ones, I think they do offer classes for second time parents but as my DD will only be 18 months when the new baby arrives I'm not sure how useful they will be as we have already done the whole giving birth/ looking after a new baby thing recently. I have booked onto a breastfeeding workshop though, although I breastfed my DD for 6 months one thing I learned is that you can never be too prepared and if you do run into problems it is also helpful to have as many contacts as possible for help x

My parentcraft classes start on 11th June (my wedding anniversary) and run once a week til 2nd July (my birthday lol).

I'm looking forward to them, esp the tour of the delivery suite x

We seem not to have many at only 2 classes! They must cram it all in lol!

I was going to do the NCT classes but was purely down to cost

Regardless of the cost for the NCT ones I would still recommend them it is worth it.

OH thought it was worth it too and he feels really prepared for the birth and he has been taught massage techniques, labour positions, what to do to help me and what not to do to help before and after baby etc

The NCT is a charity and although they quote a price on their website for their classes they aim to be accessible to everyone. If you can't afford to pay you can get in touch with them and get a place on a course at a price you can afford. They also have a phone line for advice on anything from postnatal depression to breastfeeding which can be used by anyone, regardless of whether you are an NCT member or not x

It's expensive when you cant afford it, the simple reason "we" decided to do the parentcraft classes instead. We both work full time and even the price of what it was expensive and i didnt want to be paying it on a monthly basis :(
