Paracetamol

Been reading all these great Birth stories for months and noticed a lot take paracetamol in the early stages of labour.

How well does it work?
I have avoided taking paracetamol all the way thru the pregnancy on the basis that it may be more effective when I really need it.

I know its not going to do much for the rest of Labour but I really want to try and not use too much gas and air ( yer right )

I was given paracetamol in the early stages and to be honest they didnt even touch the sides lol

My advice is to suck hard on the gas & air!
Dont worry to much about having alot of it... they go off and get some more if you run out, like they did with me lol

But I am hoping to have a home birth what if I run out?

Have you spoken to your MW about drugs?

You could always keep a hammer handy and hit the OH with it a few times whe the contractions start lol ...it'll make you feel 100 times better

the midwife has told me to take whatever I want in the early stages of labour including co - codamol or ibuprofen!

She says everyone gets so worried about taking drugs during pregnancy but at the end you can get pethidine which is a derivitive of heroin!

I normally take paracetomol and ibuprofen if I have period pain so i will be trying this when I Am in labour...

Do not take ibuprofen before labour though as it has been linked to miscarriage when used in early pregnancy......

Il be cracking open the Paracetamol in early labour thats for sure, anything is worth a shot.

A few years ago I was hospitalised with Gastrointeritis and it was the worst pain ever and I survived on just Paracetamol when they were offering me Oramorph and other drugs lol.

Im hoping I have a high pain threshold but labour really will be the true test

I am allergic to Ibuprofen and codine so only can take paracetamol.

Well she comes out for a home visit when im 34 weeks ( suposed to be 36 weeks but she on holiday )

So I will ask her then, thanks ladies

Im gonna try and not take anything until I absolutley cant bear it (probably in the first 10 mins theh!!!) so hopefully i will feel the effects more.

I just dont know how I will feel!!??
