Hi there littlelady,
I suffer very badly from anxiety and panic attacks. I am sure my recent m/c might have been brought on by it. Basically I feel as though I am going to have a heart attack and die. Usually it is controlled by drugs, but I was drug free during pregnancy...hence lots of panic attacks.
It is a really frightening experience when you are having one, even if you can sensibly rationalize it later.
I found that going to the docs was really helpful because he refered me to a Community Psychiatric Nurse who will give me practical techniques and support to combat them. He also gave me some drugs to calm down. The biggest help I have had is hypnotherapy. I went last week and it has already had a dramatic effect on my life. I highly recommend it.
Lastly, I found an online community which gives advice and support for panic attacks. It has been invaluable to me.
http://www.phobics-awareness.org/forum/ You can go to the main homepage
http://www.phobics-awareness.org and it will give you facts and tips for controlling panics.
I hope some of this is useful to you. Panics often come on after stressful times in your life like a death/marriage/birth/moving house etc...don't think you are mad for getting them.....it is some people's way of dealing with stress.
You can always pm me if you want to chat, I am happy to help if I can
Michelle
