Pain releif

Ive not yet met with my midwife/s as i only got allocated to the red team at my hospital today.

Im just wondering what other people have used when in labour and what helps/dont help?
We can not get epidurals ((sp)) in our maternity wing/s they just wont git you one at all.

if you want pain relif but they wont give you a epidural then your only options are gas and air or pethidine which i think is graet as it make you tired i slept through most of my labour my husband and mum got great entertainment out of me as i was so out of it.

i dont like gas + air... i was in a car crash (very serious) and the doctors tried to give me it when i first went in, it made me very sick tht might have been because they had also gave me morfine at the crash scene.

I had pethadine with my first labour. It made me completely off my face but didn't take away the pain. It was awful.
Molly was drugged up on it for the first 48 hrs or so. She slept the whole time and it was really hard work to get her to feed.

pethindeine is an injection in your leg and it is ment to take the pain away or a least ease but it make you sleepy and baby sleepy it depends if you dont want gas and air you will have no pain releif at all will you be able to manage without. i woild serioulsy think about it

I had pethadine with Willow but can't say it drugged her up she still woke every hour and half for milk and she was prem so they thought she would sleep through feeds. it didn't take the pain away just made you relax more.

My mum had pethadine too and it knocked her out completely they had to wake her to push i guess it just effects everyone differently

Had gas and air with Conal and it was like i was very drunk and felt really dizzy and like i was going to pass out and i only had it for 2 contractions it did make it fell like the pain was happening to someone else though. One of my friends had gas and air all the way through and it gave her a really sore throat for about 3 days so again it proboly effects everyone differently

I was offered others but can't remember what they were sorry

I hated the pethadine, I was completly out of it and didn't know what was going on at all. Don't remember much about straight after the birth either which is a shame.
