Hi everyone!

After last month and a horrendous wait of feeling pregnant, getting symptoms and then AF showing up late, we have decided to use ovulation tests this month.

Today is day 5 of my cycle, I would normally finish AF today or tomorrow, am I right in thinking that I start testing on day 11? Is it the same as a hpt? And finally what is your thoughts on Sex around ovulation? I've read just dtd every second day is recommended...

Thanks girls xx

I've not used OPK's before, but my understanding is, you work out roughly when you will ovulate and start testing a good few days before that- for example I usually ov on CD17, so I would start testing CD11/CD12 to make sure I didn't ov early and miss it. Some say every other day is fine for dtd, some follow the SMEP (sperm meets egg plan) and dtd every other day until they get a positive OPK, then do it every day for 3/4 days.

Good luck, if AF gets me in a couple of weeks I'll get some OPK's too xx

My cycle was roughly 28/29 days and I used OPKs from day 8 or 9 just to be sure. I used cheap ones and tested 2 or 3 times a day, key times are mid morning and mid afternoon. I think sex leading up to ovulation is key, because then there's sperm waiting for your egg. So I suggest ensuring that you have regular sex from about day 9 until a few days after the OPK.

Also, it's good to record your OPK results somewhere. I was a bit anal about this and used to record them on Fertility Friend but also stick all the strips in a book with the cycle day and time on! I still have that book, it was great for working out my cycle. Once you know roughly when you ovulate, you know roughly when to time sex for.

Hi girls, I've been on clomid 50mg CD 2-6 and I'm now on CD 18 & still no +++ on my Opk.
I'm using asda own brand and testing once maybe twice a day. From CD 9 They have been faint lines gradually getting darker but never as dark as the control line???
This is the darkest on cd 18? Can I still ovulate or is this month a fail? Is this a positive or negative?
I've had twinges and full aches but don't know if my mind is playing tricks.
Thanks xx

It's a negative, it has to be as dark or darker than the control line to be positive. You've still got time to ovulate. Without clomid I ov'd anywhere between cd 10 - 14 and when I used clomid I wouldn't ovulate until between cd 17 - 19.
It's possible of course that you've just missed the positive, some women only surge for a short time so it's possible to miss it with opk's. Just keep at dtd, good luck xx
