I was just wondering if any one with fertility problems has ever been told to lose weight before they will look into anything?

My doctor said i need to lose a stone before she refers me to a specialist (to look at my cysts) because if she referd me now theyd just tell me to lose weight.

I thought it was a good idea at first because i was trying to lose weight anyway but i cant seem to shift it and i feel like im just stuck... I guess in a way it makes sence to lose the weight but i keep wondering why she let me have a scan and everything and then not let me get treatment.

If i get a BFN this month i was thinking of just having a chat with her  Cant even remember when my last AF was and her only advice is to lose weight and my periods will just come back but since weve discoverd i have cycts on my ovaries i just cant see that its my weight thats the issue.

HI,
My step brothers girlfriend has also been told to lose some weight before they will transfer them for IVF. I wasn't told to lose before IVF but did put on a stone and half while taking the medication. :?

hi

i have been referred to a specialist who has told me I need to lose 2 stone before they can provide any treatment however they can carry out all the investigations blood tests scans etc before. They have also sent me to see the dietian (sp), who has been brilliant. I suffer with PCOS and she knew exactly the struggle I have and has created a plan for me which is working.

So they hope by doing this that by the time we have had all our investigations done and go back to see her i will have lost the weight and able to start the treatment instead of waiting to lose the weight first.

x

I was told to loose weight aswell.. i lost 1/2 stone and gained got pregnant that month so well worth it

I guess ill just have to try and lose the weight then, im suposed to go back in 2 weeks to see if iv lost any weight this month but im not going to bother because i know i havnt

How do they know that you are overweight? Do they calculate the body mass index using your height and weight?

Shes never done my height but shes weighed me 3 times now, she said i need to be 11st before she can refer me. Always thought you needed height to do BMI, shes never measured me either :?

hmm, strange... My sister-in-law is just a bit over 11 stones so should be ok then.. I hope.. I have posted a question in this section.. can you please have a look? I though you would probably know .. thank you

When I had IUI my BMI should have been under 30.

My weight went up and down a lot and the fertility specialist said that as I was only a little oerweight it wouldn't have that much of an impact on my fertility. It was 31 bmi when I had the IUI but I had lost weight before starting. They didn't weigh me and as I'm tall and I'm a size 16 I don't look huge just very well built. I don't know if they would have gone ahead with treatment if they knew my actual weight :shhh: .

I need to lose about a stone too! My doctor worked it out using the BMI

We can lose the weight! :cheer:
Good Luck! xxx
