Just wondering if there are any other mums to be over 40? I am 42 and 5 weeks pregnant. Thought it would be nice to connect. How's everyone doing?

Is this your first ? I have a 4yr old. Taken us longer than planned to conceive this one (3.5 yrs !!!!!)...

Yes it's my first. Am finding it mildly terrifying. It took us 3 years to conceive this one and I'm so worried I'm going to lose it. Had very strong pregnancy symptoms though which is supposed to be a good sign. I'm 6 and a half weeks.

Hmmmm how am I feeling - fragile and vulnerable. Which I hate. I had no problems at all, not even a symptom with my 4yr old. Total text book pregnancy and amazing water birth. Amazing experience from beginning to end.

I always joked that next time I wouldn't get so lucky - and boy... so far... 3.5 yrs to get to this point. We wanted them close together in age ideally. We had a MC June last year at 9wks... and then at the start of this pregnancy (I'm 6wks now, after recalculating my dates based on conception rather than LMP) - I've had bleeding, cramps and an early scan that either showed I was having another MC or I am a week or so earlier than I thought. So dates recalculated and possibly the bleeding was nothing.

Another early scan Friday (3 more sleeps!)... I will be 6+4 according to new dates, hoping to see an embryo and a heartbeat.

That sounds really nerve wracking...good luck with the scan. Its fairly likely it's the dates...I've been given 3 different no of weeks by 3 different people. I think bleeding and cramps is very normal...the American sites are far more relaxed about it than the NHS. In many studies women who bled were less likely to miscarry than women who didn't.

So sorry about the miscarriage.

Totally get feeling fragile and vulnerable...I'm a mess!

Glad to know I am not the only one in 40's, but I am old.. can't believe I am pregnant. How can I be so fertile in my old age.. I will never get it. had my first child at 37, second at 39, 3rd at 41 and now again. My mum knows but wants me to have a termination, a friend of mine told me she would terminate in my situation.. I must be mad. the rest of my family don't know.. I feel dreadful, everyone will have a go at me when they find I am pregnant again. I have a scan on Friday as I have had spotting to see if everything is ok. So confused.. but nice to know there are other older mummies on here. Nice to meet you all x

I cant believe someone would tell you terminate just because you are an older mum.

I had Dexter at 38, and this is my 2nd after trying a long time to conceive... I am actually hoping this isn't my last too. We'll see... but I'd love 3-4... but we'll have to see how this one goes I guess... lol...

How are you doing Sunflower ?

After a shakey start with bleeding and early scans at the EPU, all seems fine here. So trying to relax and enjoy it a little. We had our 12wk scan last week - I am 13wks on Thursday this week...

Relieved and happy... trying to cope with sickness and headaches but otherwise all good here... xx

i had my baby 10 days ago, perfectly healthy, easy birth, (as they say!) , great recovery.... i turn 43 next month...... this is my second surprise baby in my 40s!!! (i have an 18 month old too). Midwife asked me about contraception and i said i hoped age would be against me now, she said it doesnt seem like it is!!! lol
