I've been reading the birth to 5 book given to me by the health visitor and I noticed it said not to take codeine if you are breastfeeding because of possible complications it can have.

Now I was discharged with LOADS of codeine from the hospital, as it happens I didn't take it because it makes you constipated and I didn't want to make things hard for me with my cut etc

I've been reading about it and I'm a bit alarmed that they gave me them when the nhs advice book recommends not to take them if you are breastfeeding.

Did any other breastfeeding mums get prescribed codeine?

I was prescribed paracetamol and diclofenac. Never heard that about codeine xxx

I also got paracetamol and diclefonac. But they did say originally when I'd come out of theatre that I'd get codeine

I wasn't prescribed it on discharge but was given it at 39 weeks. I read that it shouldn't be taken that late in pregnancy because it can cause delayed breathing at birth. I should have known then that our hospital is full of assholes

I was also given it on discharge, when I asked the midwife who came out the next day she said it was ok to take for a short period whilst breastfeeding xx

I was given codydramol (sp?). Interesting that you've been given the 0-5 book by your HV - I was told they don't give the book out anymore and was just given a web link to it. Anyone else get given the book? Wondering if it's just my NHS trust being stingy?!

You've read the birth - 5 book? I don't get time to read the paper!!!

I was just told to look it up on the web, didn't even get the link to it so you did better than me lol
