That is what my husband has lol

We just received a copy of a letter that the CARE clinic have sent to... someone? Umm, my GP i think.

The letter tells them that they are trying to "access funding for an East Midlands SCG Cycle" so maybe they are trying to get around the Derby Nhs consultant?

I dunno what a SCG cycle is :eh:

Sounds good, i think? We haven't been told about this letter - unless this is what the private consultant meant when he said he'd sort it from his end.

It just made me chuckle seeing the medical term for it, don't think i've seen a 29 letter word before

 who made up that word? Well it sounds like progress, which can only be a good thing :) x

That's what my husband has too. We are just hoping it won't cause us too many problems. Maybe that's naive but i figure some sperm is better that no sperm.

It comes from oligozoospermia which is low sperm count, asthenozoospermia which means the sperm don't move much and teratozoospermia which means the heads are a funny shape.

for a second there i thought you've fell asleep on the keyboard!! what a word!! x x

I thought she was gonna have a rant and that word was in place of expletives! :oooo:

WOW what an amazing word!!! at least you have a word for it noe even if nobody can pronounce it :)

I know! It's crazy, looks crazier in a formal looking letter :)

Mustard - oh your husband has the exact same thing?

That's comforting to know :)

It's not good, definately an ICSI fix according to my fertility doctors (maybe IVF if the count goes up) - just about the only thing both agreed on

They check the sperm by three main points - movement, shape and count and basically they are buggered on all scores.

Where are you upto in your fertility treatment?

Hi Louise.
I'm way behind you to be honest cos we haven't even started trying to conceive yet. We knew there were likely to be problems because my husband had treatment for cancer when he was 15 which involve radiotherapy and chemo so before he had that done he froze sperm. They only store it for 10yrs before they need more permisson to keep storing it so 2 years ago when he was 25 he had a sperm analysis done to see what the state of his sperm was to see if we needed to keep storing it.

We were told his count was low and high number of abnormal sperm (can't spell the proper word) but that we might still be able to conceive with it, only time would tell. But we may well need assistance and we are still storing the frozen sperm. Anyway at that time we really couldn't ttc as my OH was still studying so I had to work to support both of us and we we renting a tidy studio flat so no room even for a cot.
He is now working so we are going to start ttc in May (it seems silly to wait to try as we will almost certainly take a long time to conceive if it happens at all but we need to take vits, get healthy and I'm trying to track my cycles as I've had irregular cycles since coming off the pill (which is a bit of a pain and I was hoping I would be super fertile to make up for OH :) ).

The fertility docs and our gp have said we should try for 2 years (as we are still young) as he is subfertile not infertile so hopefully it will still happen naturally for us. I am obviously a bit anxious about it and don't know if I'll be able to wait that long but I think I'm kind of in denile cos part of me still believes I'll get pregnant straight away.

I have been reading your posts with interest to see what might lie in store for us. (sorry about the long post)

Well, i don't suppose there is any harm in trying naturally for a while with hubby having some healthy stuff stored in the freezer as long as ttc isn't stressing you out :)

You're both young and have stuff going on with your life so i think you'll be alright and if it doesn't happen, the pill should definately be out of your system in a couple of years.

My hubby is getting on a bit in terms of how old i'd like him to be when we have young children - the doctors keep telling me that he'll still be able to father children just the same in his 60's but they don't seem to get it

I was kind of hoping that my fertility would help us to conceive naturally anyway but i'm not sure anymore.

Plus, my good health might mean i'm better at zapping sperm? :eh:

The letter i got a copy of between fertility consultants says "Clearly, with this degree of abnormality it is very unlikely that they will conceive naturally".

Just try not to get wrapped up in the drama of ttc would be my advice - keep it casual ;)

Thank you Louise I think thats very good advice and best of luck with all your treatment. What a silly thing for the docs to say that he can father a child just as well in his 60s (biologically maybe but the sleepless nights will be a different issue let alone the dads race at the school sports day). That is no critism of older parents btw I have total admiration for them but it must be harder.

I think there must be different degrees of severity of Oligoasthenoterataozoospermia because the letter we got with OHs more resent results said 'although these results are abnormal and we would certainly recommend the frozen sperm continue to be stored it is certainly still possible that you will be able to concieve naturally'. So we just have to go with that and keep our fx. We are lucky to have the frozen good stuff there if we need it.

Louise How long were you trying for before you got OH tested and how long have you beeen trying now if you don't mind me asking?

I don't mind at all :)

I was officially ttc (OPKs etc) for 5 months before i got hubby tested but 'not trying not preventing' still counts towards it medically.

I was ntnp for about 5-6 years.

We got hubby tested in Oct/Nov 2010, he has just had his third test to confirm which we should get the results back for very soon.

Ooooh oligo-whatsit same here! (Tested 3 times - same result every time.) Then after taking Maritime Pine Bark extract (Pycnogenol) for 3 months DH's results were totally normal!!! Seriously ladies, it's worth a shot - force feed your fellas if you have to! :)
Xx

I actually keep on meaning to ask you what it was that you used to get his sperm up :)

Where did you buy it from?
