I don't know whether I am being thick ad I should know the answer to this, or whether there is a post about this that I have missed, but what is labour actually like? What are the pains like? Are they sharp shooting stabbing pains, or are they like horrid peroid pains? You have to be honest!!!!

my first pregnancy it was lower pelvic sharp pains but really awful lower back cramping pains

with colby i was induced and it it was like really awfull period pains

They are about 10,000 times sorer than period pains!!! but if you are lucky they only last for between a minute and a minute and a half and until the end you get respite in between them so they are bearable. BUT every one is worth it when they place that baby in your arms.

every labour is different so just wait and take it as it comes.
The main thing is that its a pain that you know will not last forever so itssort of barable. Try not timing them when they come regular though cos you get to the point where you are waiting for pain :rotfl: which is VILE!

if it was that bad do you think i would have goneback for seconds

sorry im big baby when it comes to pain and i done it twice so its not that bad
but remember its a pain you forget instantly when your baby is crying their lungs out just after birth :D

ahh, thanks guys!! I can't wait for the day!! I know I don't want to be pain, but I want that bit when my little boy is given to me!!!! come on april!!!!

mine were like ridiculously bad period pains

I cant wait either tbh, i know its going to hurt but I know its going to be like period pains magnified to a million and I always forget my periord pains after they happen pmsl

Im more worred about the dentist op tbh lol

Im just worried they will say I only have a little fairy and cut me from hole to hole, then I think I will cry - as will OH no doubt :rotfl:

Imagine the pain you have when you have dioreah!! .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Then x it by 100 and add that pain all around your stomach, back and bits!!!!!

Sorry!!

the pain is like some one getting a sledge hammer and smacking it over your belly and every bone in your body being crushed and twisted!!!!!

you did ask me to be honest

but the pain has put me off sooooo much. it was hurrendous.
but i can usually put up with pain and wouldnt say im a whimp. but my friend who is a size six and a whimp had a 9lb baby no pain relief and said it was not bad. so every one is different!!!

but back to back is soooooooooooooooooo much worse

but the only thing that got my through the pregnancy with my 2nd was knowing i could have the epidural i wear by it! but i didnt get it    as he came to fast!

I'm swaying more now to trying to do it naturally... I know it's going to be painful but i pressume it will be so much better than the pain after a c section :? ?

By naturally I presume you mean, just with Gas & air and thats it or do you mean, with all the drugs but popping it out yourself rather than being cut for a CS?

Apparently it is a lot less painfull AFTER a natural birth than a C section! I would rather be in a few days of natural labour pain, than 6-8 weeks of C-Section pain TBH!

Natural all the way for me with Gas and Air and an Eppy or 5!

I kept an open mind about pain relief during labour and I am so glad I did (though I wasnt keen on the idea of any pain relief) I ended up having a meptid and a epidural (and some gas and air but only after arguing with the midwife that I didnt want any at all)
if I am honest, labour for me was awful (I had my baby two weeks ago) I was in labour for 15 hours (when my waters broke my contractions straight away were two and a half to three minutes apart and lasting for nearly a minute) and pushing for two and a half hours and ended up having a ventouse and sadly it has put me off having anymore children :( I was in loads of pain and nearly ripped the OHs top (though I didnt swear or shout at him!) and was nearly crying with the pain and nagging him to get them to give me pain relief as I couldnt take anymore!
You get through it and as everyone says everyone is different, you might not find it that bad!

bless you hun, thats sounds like a nightmare.

but i no every one says. "u forget about the pain" you do i did adter my first and was looking forward to the 2nd. untill the contractions started i was screaming "NEVER EVER AGAIN"

I would do it all again tomorrow so it cant be that bad, and that is someone who has been married 10 years before having her first as i was so scared of tthe thought of giving birth.

wowee, lots of different opinions!! Oh well, theres no turning back now, and I am sure everyone will agree that however bad all your stories are, it was worth it for the end result!!! Thanks again everyone, I like to know what I have let myself in for!!

nathan was back to back when i went into labour so i had absolutely no pain in the front- which was what i was expecting as he was ROA the day before- it felt like two circular saws going into my back either side of my spine sounds shocking but it wasnt that bad as long as you imagine your somewhere else!

with my first it really felt like i was constipated (sorry if tmi) so i thought i was because i suffered bad constipation all the way through my pregnancy, so i took some laxatives (sp) and you can just imagine what happend lol

 whoops!!

I wasn't really prepared for the pain to be honest - I've never experienced anything like it.

The things that helped the most were: -

1. GAS AND AIR
2. Being able to move - it was a lot worse later when I had to lay on my side
3. No matter how painful a contraction got I always knew it would end and I'd get a minute to catch my breath before the next
4. Knowing after each contraction that I was one contraction closer to meeting my little one (one down, not so many to go..!!)
5. Hubbie and sister were there and were fantastic support.

And now, even though I remember thinking it was a lot more painful than I'd expected, I don't remember the pain or being distressed by it - I remember very clearly the good bits and the funny moments about the birth experience, but the bad bits are very fuzzy. So I'm not really worried about labour for my second.

It's been said before, but everyone and every labour is different. Keep an open mind and take it as it comes and don't spend time worrying about it now just enjoy your pregnancy!!
