I've just been having a nosey at my blood results that were put in my maternity notes when I went for my anomaly scan and I've seen that my blood type is O negative.

Nobody has mentioned this to me but I've been reading online that as I'm negative I may have to have Anti D injections.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is negative as well and if their midwife has discussed it with them. Should I have been having these injections already? I'm not seeing my midwife until 25 weeks (1 August) and I don't want to wait that long if I should be having something done. I don't want to harm the baby.

i am o negative hon! they should send you out a card with your info on. Basically, if you have a bump or fall, then they will give you anti d, and when you are around 28 weeks i think you get it too, then again during labour. Its just to stop your body rejecting the babies blood in case they mix.
I was really freaked out when i started reading up on it, but i have been told that if i have a knock or fall, to let the hospital know i am o neg and get the anti D.... xxx

I wasn't aware of any injections if your blood group is O negative. I don't have it myself i'm A positive but my partner, the baby's father is O negative.
Sorry i'm not much help :/ I'd give your midwife a call just to make sure before your appointment

xx

Hi there, I'm O Negative too.
Over here, they monitor the antibodies in your blood with regular blood tests and if there are any anomalies then they will do an Anti- D injection while pregnant. Nothing to it - just a simple jab. But if there is no cause for concern Anti-D is only given after birth if the baby is not O Neg. I had Anti-D after baby#1 as he is a different blood type to me - but I've had no complications or problems whatsoever - it honestly isn't a big deal :)

Only thing to be aware of is any bleeding while pregnant - ALWAYS notify midwife

I'm o negative and they didn't tell me until I had a bleed. I've had to have several anti d injections.

The information I've been given says first anti-D injection is given at 28 weeks.

Is this your first baby hun? If it is, I don't think you get your first injection till 28 weeks, unless you have complications x

Thanks everyone. I'll make sure I ask my midwife about it at my 25 week appointment. I'm a bit surprised that nobody has bothered to inform me about it. It's only because I'm nosey and opened the envelope with my results in that I've found out.

hi hun im O neg too, it is only a problem if baby is rhesus + so if you know what blood group your other half is thats good, you have anti d injections at 28 and 34 (i think) weeks or if you bleed as if baby has + blood your anti bodies can reject the baby, this is more of a worry with your 2nd baby. im on my 3rd pregnancy and my other 2 were fine even though i did have a few bleeds.

if in doubt ask your midwife to explain, she'll do it a lot better than i can lol
