I had my 16 week check with the midwife today. Everything is fine and I heard baby's heartbeat for the first time... it was lovely!

I found out that my blood group is Rh negative and i'll need the Anti D injections. It was a bit of a shock tbh, I had an operation a couple of years ago and nobody mentioned my blood group then.

I have to have the injections at the MDU at the hospital incase I have a reaction  She did tell me when but I can't remember. Has anyone here had to have them too?

I am rheusus negative too.

They wouldn't have told you about it at the previous operation as it doesn't matter then. The main issue is if the baby's father is rheusus positive (as something like 85% of people are) then the baby might have a positive blood group. If any of your blood and the baby's blood mixes at the placenta you would then build up antibodies in your system against the positive part and this could then attack any future pregnancy where the baby is rheusus positive again.

I haven't had any injections yet this pregnancy- think it is something like 28, 32 and then after the birth- but I had some after my miscarriage- they are nothing to worry about.

The other thing to remember if you have any bleeding this pregnancy is to get an injection then too or if you have a bang to your bump or are in a knock in the car etc.

Hope that helps

Sorry for the essay

the other thing you can do is get ur partners blood group tested.. if hes negative too u wont need the injection. but if he is it is advised that you get it..as ur body can reject any future pregnancys.. this is my second pregnancy which has gone past 6 weeks.. i have had 2 very very early on miscarriages, and its my hospital policy that they dont give anit-d before 12 weeks as the baby doesnt have its own blood system or something..

the only bad side effects of it are that the anti bodies are taken from people, so there is a slight risk of hiv, hep c transmittion.. very very low as obviously its screend.. but as with any blood transfusion etc,.. there is still risk. im getting hubbys blood tested before i have mine.. and i think its procedure after ur 1st baby to have the anti-d in pregnancy..with my 1st i had it after she was born..

I'm Rh negative too...I've been told the injections are from 28 weeks unless you have a bang or bump as Fothers suggested. My MW says it's nothing to worry about.

Yeah me too...the only thing is the more pregnancies you have, the more injections you need but it's honestly no problem, I've had loads and never had a reaction. Most places like you to stay for 20mins after any kind of injection....it's just procedure!
You'll be fine, I'm sure...it goes in your bum, thats the worst part but they're gonna see a whole lot more than that at the birth anyway

u will have them in your thigh, yr blood pressure might be low too
