Nursery!

Somehow need to change the junk room into the nursery! I'm thinking pale grey that we can accessorise with pink or blue when baby is here? Might do wallpaper on one of the walls yet but undecided. Under the window needs replastering first as we had a leak so it's all damp x

Hey Beauandhamish,

Perfect room for s nursery though! Nice and light, already you could keep the wall colour if you wanted too! It's amazing how much stuff we have and it all goes in "the little room"

Keep me updated I would love to see how it transforms!

Grey seems to be on trend at the moment, I know alot of you have mentioned it and that's the wall colour we have too x

JoeyClare,

Thanks for the response :)

How interesting about the blankets! I've heard newborns like to be tight and swaddled, is this true?

Those grow bags are adorable I'll have to invest x

My little one hated being swaddles. The midwives would come and swaddle her really tightly in hospital and she'd see it as a challenge for how quickly she could get her limbs out. We also had quite a snug bouncy chair which she hated. My mum has a cheap one from the supermarket at her house and my daughter loved it as she could stretch around and move a lot more freely. The problem is, you don't know what they're going to like/dislike till they are here!!

Hi snowbee,

Your nursery sounds lovely! Do you find feeding in bed more relaxing?

X

Yes and I don't even need to be awake! We co sleep and he just rolls on and has a snack. I'm getting so much more sleep this way. I do put him in his cot everyday when I am doing jobs upstairs so he gets use to it and his room and we also play in there on his play mat as well as downstairs for a change.

Your room looks lovely already, I can see it making an adorable nursery.

My little boy also hated being swaddled. We don't use gro bags either, cellular and knitted blankets instead, he seems to like it better. I think it is a case of don't go mad buying lots of something until you know what they like!

Hi JoeyClare,

Isn't that funny! There's no presuming they all like it! You can tell I'm a first time mama! :eh:

Would you recommend a bouncer chair and which one did your mum have? Also, how long are they in those chairs for?

Sorry for all the questions I know nothing :oooo:

Snowbee,

You are too kind! :) Thank you! It's very small though, hardly any floor space but we'll make it work!

The co sleeping sounds good - I always hear mixed feedback on that, but I guess we all find out what's best once we get to know our baby! Exciting times!

Thanks for the advice, I might end up taking a leaf outta your breastfeeding book!

I know you asked Joey but I'll jump in here too if that's okay!

We had a baby swing, just an Argos one my sister in law got for the baby and it was my life saver. Our little boy loved it and it gave me that precious time of being able to jump in a shower in peace, put a washing on etc without a screaming baby. I know not all babies like them but we put L in it from the start and he settled so well. It was top of our list for this baby. L was in it till he was about 4 months i think! With swaddling I'm a big fan, but I'm a children's nurse and we love a swaddled baby  not all of them love it but for a lot of babies it does bring calm as flailing arms are what panic a baby more. Again some don't like it so I wouldn't rush out to buy expensive swaddle blankets, any old blanket can swaddle no bother so let's you find out if baby likes it or not before paying out a lot of money!

One of the bigger things I'm paying out for this time round is a sleepyhead. I always made a nest for L to sleep in when he was a baby (there wasn't such a thing as sleepyheads etc when he was born) but this time the sleepyhead is here and does that job. I always find babies sleep better when they feel secure (and I'm not a fan of co sleeping just personal opinion) so I feel this is the next best thing.

I'm sure a lot of people will have their 'must haves' for babies  xx

Not at all, I'm majorly excited about doing a nursery so please post away and I'll do the same when we finally get all the upstairs work completed and I can begin :D xx

Thanks for the advice MrsS and not at all please jump in!

Can you learn the "swaddle technique" easily? I just look at things like that and think "How!?" Haha!

And sorry, my ignorance! What is a sleepyhead? Sounds cool though!

Can't wait to see your nursery progress!

Very easily, have a wee youtube of it. The key is making it tight otherwise it all comes undone

Also google the sleepyhead, it should come up instantly. It's like a little sleeping nest, it can go in prams Moses baskets cots cribs etc, or just on its own. I'm in love with them!

I can't wait to get started. We're getting the upstairs of the house moved around a bit so can't do anything until then. I can have ideas coming out of everywhere though :D xx

We have a bouncy chair but he was too small to use it until he was about 10 weeks. I had to go and buy a swing instead as that had a much more 'cupped' design and held him better when he was very small. Now he has his swing downstairs (sleeping in it now!) and his chair upstairs, he goes in that when I shower and I put him in the doorway of the bathroom so he can see me. I bought him a playmat at 13 weeks, before then he wouldn't be put down, now he quite likes to have a stretch on it. They really are so different it is really hard to know what they will like and what they will hate. He is really keen on cuddles and often in the day won't be put down for any length of time at all. He also likes to sleep face down on my knee, weird!

Oh also we looked at the sleepyhead but there is no way he would have slept in that, he doesn't like being enclosed and unable to have his arms straight out the sides...

That is so cute snowbee!

What's your little ones name? Anymore tips about moving a baby while you're around the house doing chores etc but need them with you? I have a really awkward situation because our house is a very old townhouse spread across 4 floors with a basement, so getting around it with all the stairs is awkward even with just me and my husband at the moment! Like, the laundry room is right down in the basement and from the top floor rooms that's 6 flights of stairs plus a few lil Ines in the ground hall ARGHHH how do I cope moving a babba round with me?

Any ideas so welcome hahaha x

Just Googled it they are well cool! Just realised I' e seen something similar before and read a few reviews, people saying their babies that struggled to stay asleep slept like angels in them!

I'll have to consider this if our bean turns out liking being swaddles!

Keeping this post going, would love to see everyone's before and after pics! I love decorating and pinterest x
