Hello ladies!

Officially in the second trimester now which means me and my husband are letting ourselves get really excited!

Was just wondering what your opinions are on nurseries?

Do we need them?

Do you do them blue for boys, pink for girls or are you team cream/lemon!?

What are your nursery essentials and any nifty design ideas?

Any help/input/pictures needed!

Btw I would love to post s picture of the bare room I want to use as s nursery so I can see if you guys have any ideas, but don't know how! Sorry, technophobe here!

We have a rented house and not allowed to paint, so our room for baby will be cream and we'll accessorise with blue. With my first we got a cot bed and a drawer unit with a changer top. We'll do the same again. My little one used the cot bed until she was 3.5 years old, so got some good use and with our changing unit, we just took the top off it when she was too big and it's still in her bedroom as a regular chest of drawers. We'll buy some fitted sheets in blue, but not buying any nursery sets. Spent about £120 last time in a quilt (which isn't to be used till 1 year plus, cot bumper (never used as I worried about safety) fitted sheet, nappy holder (pointless), toy which wrapped around top of cot (also pointless) and matching canvases. Won't be wasting my money this time!

Hey JoeyClare,

Thanks for the response... you're so right about the pointless spending of money!

Already started a Pinterest Board (uh oh!) and I think you can just get sucked into spending a fortune to keep up with trends etc.

I actually really like cream for a nursery, I think it's calming and classy ;) I might go the same route for mine x

We didn't know the sex but probably wouldn't had our decor anyway - light grey aside from one feature wall which was thick white/grey horizontal stripes. Then just the essentials - wardrobe, cot(bed) and a change table which now just serves to use the cupboard underneath. We have an arm chair too which is an essential - would've loved a sliding/rocking chair but had no room. Also highly recommend black out blind/curtains! Oh had a nappy bin too - some find them pointless but we live in a town house and are lazy so taking poo nappies out to the bin or emptying bathroom bins everyday wasn't always practical.

Never had quilt sets/bumpers as they aren't recommended. We have got a musical orb thing which projects stars on the ceiling which he still uses now (2.5 yrs!). Though stuff like that is trial and error as not every baby will like/get use from them.

Ps I'm addicted to Pinterest :)

Thank you candy what a fab response!

Your decor sounds UH-MAZING! I would love a sliding rocker too but I'm thinking erm, no space! We also live in an old town house so too many annoying flights of stairs to get down to the kitchen bin!

Here's the room I'm thinking our bubba will be in, it's currently just got a single bed in it, you can see how small the space is:

Think I might take your advice candy and just stick with the grey we already have on the wall!

Although I'm past 35 weeks now we've only just painted the second bedroom for the nursery and I still haven't organised it!

We opted for a very light grey, with ivory furniture. A cot bed, wardrobe and changing table/chest of drawers. I'm also being gifted with a rocking chair that'll be painted ivory I believe.

Although we're having a boy I wanted to avoid stereotypical blue everything but it's so damn hard because it seems that girls = pink and boys = blue. Unless you go for unisex which is basically white/cream everything!

Congrats on hitting the second tri!

Thanks first,

The more I think about it the more I'm thinking - keep the walls grey and bring in some cream furniture and maybe the off multi coloured toy for a bit of fun. My main idea is to keep it calm and cosy looking :)

Thanks for your input first your nursery sounds lovely x

Our spare room was already painted yellow with blue curtains, so we chose to leave it how it was for either a boy or girl.

I bought some child friendly pictures for the walls (farm themed as my oh and I both work on a farm) and a playmat/rug for the floor. Then I found a cot and bought a changing until to match, really useful to have if like us you are old and stiff then you don't have to change on the floor (which everyone told me to do)! I also put a chair and footstool in that we already had for feeding in the night so I didn't disturb my oh in the first few weeks, now we have established feeding we do it in bed laying down so I don't need to get up.

We aren't finding out the sex so just doing the nursery neutral until baby is here. We aren't spending a fortune either, our cot was down to £200 in the mothercare sale and we're getting ikea drawers and changing the handles on them. The room is just going to be painted a pale grey with white accessories. We're getting a white wicker chair for the corner and some shelves up. If it's a boy we're adding navy or turquoise and a girl pale pink/ vintage rose look. None of it will cost a lot at all :) I can't wait to get it all started!

I've got all my ideas on Pinterest too. You can go mad but there's also loads of cute cheap ideas! Xx

Also the only way I can ever upload pictures from my phone (iPhone) is to crop the picture first then it uploads no problem. Don't know if that helps! Xx

I'm liking grey! There's some really nice light grey furniture in Mothercare.

We never bothered with a nappy bin. I think it's one of those items that people with find really useful or don't use at all. With our first we decided not to buy one and see how our routine worked once Baby arrived. We figured that we could always have gotten one after she arrived if we felt it would have been useful, but didn't want to buy one before hand and then not use it.

Also this time, I won't be buying blankets for the cot bed. With my first, I bought cellular blankets for the Moses basket and cot bed whilst I was still pregnant. Turns out my baby hated blankets!! She went into grobags at 8 weeks and the cotbed blankets were never used!

With our first baby we went neutral - light yellow walls with monkey/jungle stickers. Everything we bought was neutral - animal themed or plain cream. Moses basket was a neutral lemon colour. I really enjoyed going neutral, although we did secretly know we were expecting a boy we didn't tell anyone so kept that going until he was actually born. We dressed him in cream when he was born too initially.

In terms of furniture we bought a cotbed which we'll be using for our second baby. My son is nearly 3, he's in a single bed with bed-guard now. We already had full sized wardrobes in the room anyway, I wouldn't have bothered buying kids wardrobes as they soon become too small.

This time round we've found out we're having a little girl, and have shared the news with family. We're now re-decorating the nursery for her, i'm trying not to be stereotypical and just go pink. I've found a lovely floral wallpaper with blues/pinks/greens/creams in which is going on one wall. Two other walls will be cream and one wall a very pastel pink.
I've always wanted a little girl - literally my dream come true - so there's no way I couldn't decorate it girly!!

Hi snowbee,

Your nursery sounds lovely! Do you find feeding in bed more relaxing?

Hi MrsS15,

There is something about white and wicker that just screams newborn baby! It's adorable! Sounds fab. And £200 sounds good especially in a sale - Mothercare is a good brand I think :)

Have you or anyone else had experience with Ikea Cora and changing mats? Any good?

JoeyClare,

Thanks for the response :)

How interesting about the blankets! I've heard newborns like to be tight and swaddled, is this true?

Those grow bags are adorable I'll have to invest x

Alipops,

Your nursery with your little boy AND your planned wall paper sounds absolutely gorgeous!

I have to admit everything blue or pink IS just so cute - but I really like your fresh botanical but still girlie idea for the floral wall paper - I guess when she grows up she'll still like it, sounds like she could hit 18 and it would still be chic!

This is the room I'm going to turn into a nursery ladies,

Most of our little one's bedroom is ready now. We have a mixture of cream/white wallpaper and cream carpet. Everything that we have in the bedroom currently was bought a little while ago so of course we were not aware of the gender so we just bought gender neutral things. The cot is white and the cot set (bumper, fitted sheets, blankets, hanging mobile, cot pockets etc) are a mixture of cream/white/mocha and they all match as they came as a set. The moses basket has a mocha/white blanket we placed inside of it and the actual inner that came with the basket is white. We bought a white canopy that's gone above the cot and the edges on it are multicoloured. We currently have the pram in little one's room which does not match the room scheme at all but we are just keeping it there for storage for now, lol!

We have a jungle play gym which is multi coloured, 2 baby bouncers, a standing play table which obviously won't be played with for a while yet but at least we have it and it looks cute! We have a white changing table with white covered changing mat on top of it - the cupboards are filled with nappies, baby wipes etc! We have a white cupboard in there which currently holds all of the gender neutral clothes like vests, sleepsuits, outfits, scratch mits, shoes, hats, etc. We purchased a new lampshade to hang from the ceiling which goes perfectly with the cream/white/mocha scheme we have going on and we also purchased some new blackout curtains which are a mocha colour too.

Now all we plan on doing is buying some gendered outfits, genders pacifiers, and a few other bits and bobs where necessary. We've already bought all of the nail clippers, hair brush, bottle cleaner brushes, bath/room thermometer, plug socket protectors, etc which are currently all in the draw of the changing table.

OH and I are pretty organised people and quite like things to be ready at a good time so that we don't have to rush around at the last minute! It's lovely being able to walk around the house and peak into a room that's just sat there waiting and ready for little one.

I'll happily attach some photos of the room if anyone would like me to so they can get some ideas? It's not entirely complete yet though!!

Xx

Mariexo,

Wow you are organised! The nursery sounds absolutely fabulous! Would you mind attaching some photo's? I would love to see plus get some inspiration and ideas from you since you've already got yours done! :)

Love the sound of the colour scheme too - not tooooo baby-died but still obviously a nursery!

That's the thing with push chairs isn't it! Where on earth do you store em! Not sure where ours will go once we get round to buying one!

Can I also ask how many weeks you are?

Thanks for the reply x

Somehow need to change the junk room into the nursery! I'm thinking pale grey that we can accessorise with pink or blue when baby is here? Might do wallpaper on one of the walls yet but undecided. Under the window needs replastering first as we had a leak so it's all damp x
