Nightfeeds Chat Thread

Have you got any of that Lansinoh cream hun? If you feed from just one boob, the other may get a bit engorged but short term you'll probably be ok to give your nip a chance to have a break for a bit. You can keep that Lansinoh cream on whilst feeding without the need to wash it off -that's one of the good things about it. I've found that app really useful. It really helped me get into a routine. Good luck! xxx

I wouldn't leave one boob all day with no feeding, express some from it. Expressing while feeding gets more out btw. Important to let it heal though. Breastmilk itself is very soothing if smeares on and left to dry. Also let the air get to your nipples as much as possible.

I've just expressed off the left, it's rock hard too so not sure what's going on. I'm sure she doesn't latch as well on that side.

I've got the lansinoh - I reckon I'll need shares in the stuff!!

The app is fab, although I timed it, stopped and then she went back on, wasn't sure if could edit the last feed. It's great to keep track as I'll forget otherwise xx

Had j on and off boob since 10.30. Would like to sleep now!!!
Oh but on the plus side, the umbilical stump has come off now :)

It's great once the cord comes off Fliss . Makes life just that little bit easier. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that. xxx

Ours has come off too! Just had a lovely 2 hour sleep as Emily wouldn't settle unless on someone so oh took her downstairs :) last feed at 1am and she's back now! Am determined no formula top ups!!

You're doing brilliantly LD1978, well done. My OH used to do that sometimes and a couple of hours sleep really helps.

Hang in there flisstebbs, you're doing a great job!

Well Hannah is awake after 3.5hours which isn't great tbh (I know to the newbiea it sounds like a dream, haha).
Her cold seems worse at night. I did put her on her side which seemed to help but she woke on her back (little tinker
X

Thanks :) I'm trying and hopefully getting there!! Well for now ;)

God 3.5 hours sounds amazing ha ha! Your poor little one bless her. Have you got an air humidifier which may help? Or I think you can place water by a radiator or something? X

I remember back in the early days I'd been awake for 72 hours or done thing ridiculous and that night my mum sent me to bed after one of his feeds. I slept an hour and a half and felt like a new person! My son slept for another 2 hours but I was wide awake downstairs. Weird!

We've done 8.45pm to 3.45am here. Tomorrow night will be different! He was making noises at 1am but I fell back asleep so he must've been dreaming. He wasn't crying for this feed but his eyes were open. Hope he goes back to sleep, I'm greedy and need more sleep. Hope everyone else is asleep xx

Done a lot of sideways snoozy feeding so no idea how much sleep I've had. Proper change and feed going on now.
Laura, glad you got a few hours.
Thanks for all the encouragement to the seasoned pros, it helps to remember this is a short time really. X

Meh! Jack was only fed at 230 so I had a total 2 hours kip before he woke me again!! Got him out his basket, made his bottle, he's fast asleep on my bed!!! Lol little git bag!! X

Pleased to hear you've had a couple of hours Laura! :) It's amazing what a difference even a small amount of sleep can make. Hope there's a bit more on the way. xxx

3 hour gap between feeds and another 2 hour sleep - whoop!! She's only had a 10 min feed this time so not sure how long she will go (unless she has more soon) best thing is I've done a full day of all breast.

Thanks for all the support and advice!! Hope your all having good nights xx

Well done hun! You're doing great! Great to hear you've had more sleep too! :) xxx

That's real progress LD1978! Yay! You'll get there. It takes time.

We're feeding again after another 3 hours. Seems the old pattern is out the window. Although I do think cold is a lot to blame. We don't have a radiator on in here so can't put water by it but did get a plug in vapouriser. And she has saline spray up her nose a lot. I suffer terribly with my sinuses due to the shape so she is likely to I guess.

I plan to be back asleep soon, hope some of you get a lie in. No point getting up early unless you have to!

Honestly, why is every night so different?!

He's now been feeding for well over an hour! Last night he woke at 3.45am and fed for 20 minutes!! He also spent most of his time on the boob as well today. It feels like the newborn days again. Maybe it is the leap but it's been so inconsistent like this for 3 weeks.

And to top it off I have the dentist in the morning :( xx

How old is your lo MrsE?
Think I'm hitting the tiredness wall tonight, and j gets weighed in the morning. Bit nervous about this, not least because yesterday evening I tried to express with a manual pump so I could go get some sleep and only the tiniest few drops came out both sides! Cue floods of tears and me convinced I'm starving my daughter again...:wall2:

He's 10 weeks. Tonight will be different again!

Don't worry about expressing in the early weeks. I barely got anything either! Now I get between 3-5oz in one sitting.

Have you been on kellymom? There's some good photos of how much their stomachs can actually take. Xxx

Well after an awful night of on the boob, off, not settling when put her down I caved and gave her all my expressed. She guzzled all 50ml I had and seems happier. The test is if she goes down.

But now I'm worried she's not being satisfied from the boob as she seemed absolutely starving!! X
