Nightfeeds Chat Thread

Hi Spin.

Such a shame the tongue tie hasn't sorted the feeding out. Maybe try get some advice but at the end of the day you need to do what's best for you and your family.

Breastfeeding is very hard and you have done so well. Maybe there is something else that is causing her upset like colic and reflux.

Hope you are managing a little sleep now. Xx

Well it seems Harrison has a new "routine" where he sleeps from 8.30-1 then is up every 2 hours :( not enjoying that one bit! X

Sara this is my LO's routine and has been since about 8 weeks. He goes to bed anytime between 7-8pm and has about 5-6hrs. He settles back to sleep no problem (bf) but then is up every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs up untill 5 am when we kick daddy out of bed, have morning snuggles and then he might fall asleep for another 2 hrs.

He's 17 weeks today and feeds every 3hrs in the daytime.

I've forgotten what a full, undisturbed nights sleep feels like but have heard its wonderful!

Hi ladies! Aww spin I feel awful for u! I agree with what the others have said, sounds like possible colic? Bf is one of the hardest things I've ever done, and M had been quite an easy baby (so far) so be proud of yourself for keeping it going! As mentioned above happy mummy = happy baby so do what's right for both of u. I've started to introduce a bottle or 2 a day of formula to give myself a break as he's still feeding every hour and a half/2 hours in the day and I was in agony with reoccurring mastitis. It's made me much happier xxxx

So first feed since 10. He is thrashing about like a maniac while feeding so don't fancy my chances when settling ;-(. It was chilly when we went to bed so shut window completely for the first time in months and now feels really warm! Never know what to do for the best temp wise for the baby?! Xxx

Claire I always have Harrison warner than he "should" he likes being really cosy, I have his bath temp warmer too (naughty mummy). So tonight he's in a vest, sleepsuit, grobag, cellular & fleece blanket & our Groegg says its 20.4, his hands are still freeeezing though x

Oh good I was scared I was over heating him! He has his baths warmer too.. He hates it any cooler and just stiffens up and crys!

I just have him in a sleep suit with a cellular blanket swaddling him usually, but have added a fleece blanket on top the last couple of days. He's asleep on me now so I'm just waiting before the dreaded move back to his basket hoping and praying he stays asleep.... Pleeeeeeeassseeee baby.....! Xxx

Thanks all for your words of support. Hubby sent me to bed at 1 and he stayed up with her till 4.40 (he had been asleep all day) and shes feeding again now! She wouldn't sleep for more then 30min. Its so odd, I knoe she can fo longer.

I've considered reflux but she's not generally a sicky baby, shes a little sick (maybe 20ml?) After every 3rd feed or so, generally when she's been greedy and been on too long or I'm a bit full.
Ive fallen through the cracks with the HV, mine left and despite her serious concerns and escalation of my level of care, I still have not heard from my new HV 2 weeks later. I just don't know where to turn. I may try infacol again? But passing wind doesn't ease her cries. I keep getting told its normal, she's just a baby but no other baby I meet seems to cry no where near as much!

Isn't it cold tonight! I've had to sleep in my dressing gown!

Hope he went down ok Claire

Xx

Hi ladies. Well our little guy surprised us by sleeping from 8pm til 2am. I got hubby to give him it as I'm exhausted still from last night. I'm up now making another flask of water in anticipation of him waking for another feed although he's sound asleep right now.

Spin sugar have you considered silent reflux? different from normal reflux. That's what our lo has he's on gaviscon and ranitidine for it. Look up a websire called the sleep lady it has a list of symptoms. Sorry dont know sending how to attach link from my phone. Sending you hugs!

Well I had a early morning wake up call with jack at 4.30am. I can't actually remember the last time that he woke up at this time. Probably 2/3months ago. I think he has a cold coming as my oh has one at the minute and jack refuse his purée dinner last night so he was obviously hungry. It was a big shock to my system I can tell u that. I think that's why I'm still led here wide awake. Jack will be up for another feed about half 7 anyone so might just stay awake. Hope u ladies had an ok night. Xxx

Spin I would call your doctors to see if they can give you the health visitors details or maybe your local children's centre - you could just turn up to the baby clinic and ask advice there, I go every week and always have a list of questions for my HV ha! You could also try the maternity ward you gave birth in? Mine are there to help with any problems up to 6 weeks after giving birth. If its colic the colief stuff is meant to be fantastic, expensive but worth it according to my cousin who suffered similar to you xx

I can't believe the lack of support you have had. The health visitor should be there for you. Ring your surgery today and get yourself one. If not make appt with doctor to get some advice.

I know there is a lack of health visitors out there but that is below par!!

Glad you got a bit of sleep last night xx

Baby clinic and children centre good idea. Have you got that near by to go to and get some advice? X

I used to go to baby clinic if I had problems. They have health visitors there to help give you advice x

Okay okay, new plan! The dummy cuddle technique didn't work so tonight is the night!

Plan is give him as much booby as he wants before bed, I normally give him a bottle of formula or he just feeds for hours, fingers crossed he's finished by 9, he should then sleep til 2 as normal. THEN I will give him his formula feed & HOPEFULLY god willing, he will at least go to 6!

Please work :(

Nightmare night! He just didn't want to sleep - ended up with him in bed with me, twice. Tried everything. OH took him for about an hour as I'm really struggling with the lack of sleep in the daytime (oh is off work fortunately).

In my experience colief works when Infacol doesn't, it works in a different way but can totally change a baby's behaviour . I think it's really important you are given the support you deserve spin- either ring your children's cente or your gp so they can give you the Hv number. Glad you managed to get some sleep in the end.
Toby dd a bit better last night but I have thrush in my left breast and it's so painful! Have to really gear myself up to feed on that side!

So the first part of the routine has gone well. He had a bath at 6.30 then booby fed from 7-8 & he's just gone to sleep now so I predict he will be up for his first feed about 1am. Plan is to give him a bottle of formula, he will probs take 60ml and then fall asleep, so going to then change his nappy, wake him up a bit & try & give him some more then fingers & toes crossed he will go 4 hours, if he wakes before 4 hours, I am going to try dummy & cuddles and see if that works.

Wish me luck girls!

I was up all night last night with Spencer, been non stop all day and I'm STILL up and waiting on the bottles finishing.

Hubby went to bed at 9 cause he was tired. Poor little soul, only had a full nights sleep, started at 9.30am and finished at 5pm. Poor poor husband. NOT!!!!!

I can hear him snoring in the bedroom and seriously feel like going through and towel whipping him with a really freezing cold yet towel.

Just an idea

My lovely little man Spencer 28/2/2013 6lbs 3.5ozs

Josh fed from 7pm to 8.45pm with a quick break for a bath. Bed at 9.15... Just contemplating waking for a feed or seeing how long he'll go...
