Hi Ladies, had a question about bf at night. I'm planning on getting a co-sleeper crib and I was wondering what the deal was with nappy changes.

Do you have to change them every time you feed? If so, is it better to change before and let them nurse to sleep or after?

I was changing everytime I fed but found it woke him up to the point where he was wide wide awake so now il change before bed and at his 3 am feed then that's it until morning
He's always been ok unless he's Pooed which he don't do in his sleep normally then if change right away

I always put size bigger nappy on at night if he's been a particular pain to sleep then il leave him once asleep but least I know he isn't gunna b all wet or sore in morning

In the beginning they can still poo at night so there can a lot of nappy changing in the beginning. But that soon settles down and hopefully they won't poo. I've always put Vaseline on at night as a barrier so they won't get sore if you miss a dirty nappy for whatever reason. I probably changed first then fed or just went with the flow. You can guarantee they poo as you feed lol!! Just put a dim light on and keep it quiet and no interaction so they can begin to learn it's night time xxx

And I'd only change at night if it was a dirty nappy. I'd leave a wet one unless especially full. But be prepared for need a change of clothes and everything. I found my son often wet through as a tiny bub not so much my girls. But poo explosions are also a possibility when they're tiny xxx

Thanks ladies that's really helpful x

I only change it if needed but my lo nearly always pois at least twice a night! She is 5 weeks old so hoping it will get less with time! I try to change before the feed however she has a habit of pooing during or after a feed so I have to change it again! She does about 8 poos a day ( not all big ones) and she seems to like doing then in a dry nappy so my advice also would be to take a stack of nappies etc in the bedroom with you so that you have everything you need as you won't want to be searching for stuff when you are exhausted! I try not to interact too much during nappies and night feeds as I find she goes off better afterwards if I don't xx

I was just googling this question this morning! DD is now 8 weeks and we change her around 8 and put pjs on, then she cluster feeds for an hour til 9ish where she'll then sleep til about 4. I normally then feed first as she's starving straight away but when she comes up for air/burping I change her nappy then put her back on the boob til hopefully she falls asleep.

I was wondering if 9-4 was an ok amount of time to leave her nappy. There's never poo, just wees. Judging from what you guys say it seems pretty normal - thanks :) xx

Jakes almost 16 weeks and he still poos most feeds.

I tend to feed him, he'll poop mid feed, then when he's done I'll change him, then put him back on to feed to sleep. I also have a child that has NEVER refused boobie so I know I can do it!!!! X

We used to change regularly when Harry was little and I was bf him through the night... Looking back I now wouldn't bother unless he'd poopedthw older they get they have nappies on for up to 12 hours so it's not an issue

I found it always woke him, upset him and then took ages to settle!!

I change at night unless he's leaked or pooed... Which he doesn't do until he wakes up properly in the morning. He goes from 12 to 8 without a nappychange and dreamfeeds at night every 3-3 1/2 hours xx
