For the past 6 days I have had a really bad cough, so I went to morrisons and bought some honey and lemon linctus. before I decided to take it I rang maternity ward at my local hospital to make sure it were safe. she took all my details and asked me what my gestation was so I told her and she told me she wanted me to go to accidents and emergency to have my chest checked over, over a cough though fgs. I went mad because I was having a lovely day with OH and LO making cakes and just chilling out, but I done as I were told and took myself to accidents and emergencies.

anyway I got there and turns out I have a chest infection I was prescribed amoxicilin and told to collect my prescription at the pharmacy. they were all shut so now i am stuck with a chest infection a prescription and no open chemist! are they seriously stupid, got to cope with my honey and lemon now till i can get my tablets on wednesday.

Its better that u know what ur dealing with though! Chest infections can get nasty if not properly dealt with. 10 points to the mw for recognising that something wasn't quite right.

Isn't there a website that tells you where the emergency pharmacies in your area are? Or could NHS24 not give u that info? Hope u feel better soon :)

I have just checked my local tims and parker but it don't have no bank holiday opening times so I will just have to ring them tomorrow and see if they are open or not, I hope they are I want my tablets :) hahha

Chest infections are nasty! At least youre (almost) getting it treated now :)
Both of our big local tescos have good opening hours on both bank holiday days and their pharmacy will be open as usual. Maybe your local might be?
Hope you're feeling better soon xx

There is an emergency pharmacy rota in each area, there will be one open fairly locally to you.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply, hopefully you've sorted it out. I would think if you searched on emergency pharmacy and your town, you might find the info. Alternatively, NHS direct might have it, or your nearest pharmacy is probably displaying the info in their window if it isn't them.

Your out of hours GP service will almost certainly have the info too.

You can go back to the hospital and get them to write you a prescription for their pharmacy, which can only be used at the hospital x

A bad cough can also sometimes suggest a PE which is a pulmonary embolism which is a blood clot in your lung so that's probably why the midwife was so keen to get you checked out properly I think pregnant woman are more prone due to increased blood flow although I could be wrong. Glad you got it sorted though and hope you get your anti bs soon n it clears up infection quickly xxxx
