Hi there,

I was hoping that someone might be able to advise me as I am new to all of this.

I'm 29 and have been married for 18 months. My hubbie and I are hoping to start trying for a baby early next year but due to a drunken evening last weekend, we may have inadvertently started trying a bit early.

My last AF started on 3rd November and lasted for the usual 4 days and then on day 12 of my cycle we forgot use protection (for the first time ever!).

Is it possible that I could get pregnant from that?

He is not keen to try for a baby just yet but we discussed it and have agreed that we'd be delighted if we did find out we were pregnant.

I am excited now and wondering if perhaps it was a little too early in my cycle which I think is 29-30 days?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Welcome to PF  Sounds like perfect timing to me..

Good luck. Hope you get the result you want!

Thank-you for responding so quickly.

I am just a little confused about all the information on the internet. From what I can seen on ovulation charts I have completed online, it suggests that I would ovulate tomorrow and so surely any weekend 'activities' would be too early to have an effect?

Sperm can live up to 7 days in good conditions.. So even though you had sex a few days prior to ovulation, there is still a chance :)

I agree, you have text book cycles so 12-15 cd is best for ttc in your case!
Good Luck

Excellent! Thanks ladies- fingers and toes crossed. I don't think I'd be feeling this hopeful except that it is genuinely the first time I have ever not taken precautions, and in addition, fell asleep right after the 'event' and so I effectively had the 'little fellas' in me all night.

Goodness I really need to learn some abbreviations for this stuff- I feel weird discussing it like this!

Well I'll keep you posted- hopefully my 'environment' is being hospitable and keeping them alive for as long as possible - I can't wait to be a mummy! :)

Hi there,

Just wondering whether it is possible to feel any slight discomfort around the time of fertilisation. TBH it's probably just me being very aware of that area and thinking about it lots.

I have now worked out that the 'event' was definitely on day 12 of a 29 day cycle. Most sites I have been reading say that most sperm only survives for 3 days once past the cervix. If I was due to ovulate on day 15 then I guess it's possible but for some reason I don't really believe that it was close enough to the time. Probably because I'm 29 and have never TTC before.

Have any of you conceived this early prior to ovulation? That said, I don't actually know the exact date of ovulation - but from what I have read it seems to happen on day 14 or 15.

Sorry for the ramble, I've just not had anyone to mull it over with...

I don't know for sure about this Annie but if I am pregnant (which some signs seem to be suggesting), the 'event' (hehe I like that!) occured for me on what I'm almost certain was day 12. From some internet research, I agree that it seems particularly stubborn sperm can live for up to 72 hours.

Sorry I don't have any concrete, personal evidence to back all this up. Hopefully I will soon - and hopefully you will too!

Thanks for this- when are you due to test?

I am not sure which day I ovulate on as I have a 29-30 day cycle - I assumed it was CD14 but I guess it could be later as I've not ever tested for ovulation. We had another 'event' on CD17 - so fingers crossed!

Let me know how you get on!

I was due on three days ago and have had achey bbs for over a week now. Feeling sick now and have odd tastes in my mouth. I hope it's not all psychological becuase I seem to have a new symptom every couple fo hours! I tested this morning but still nothing - off to the docs on weds to find out for sure.

I have everything crossed for you :)

Sounds good, keeping my fingers crossed. Welcome to PF
