I'm pretty good with body mod having had many piercings and tattoos over the years, however I'm a bit confused by this one.

I had my navel pierced for about 6 years, however took it out about 2 years ago and let it fully heal. It was definitely healed over, although had a small lump underneath which is scar tissue.

I'm just over 18 weeks and have a bump already. I got out of the shower this evening to find that the scar was red and itchy, and appears somewhat open?!

Has anyone had any similar experiences with what they thought were healed navel piercing scars?

I've put some savlon on it and keeping it clean for a few days.

I have a scar from where my navel piercing came out - my body 'rejected' it, and it literally just opened up and pushed the bar out and closed back up!
It was ok during my first pregnancy and no problems with it...however, this pregnancy I've been having lots of skin problems and rashes all over my belly so I'm hoping it holds!
I think just keep the cream handy, and keep it clean...

I only took my out around 18 weeks (had it for 16 years). Sometimes it itches now, mainly when he's pushing in that area, but not issues with it at all. In terms of it fully closing, I'm not sure the entire hole fully closes. I had my tongue pierced and then re-pierced (had to take it out for bootcamp - pierced for 1 year before and 5 years after). Even now I can take a toothpick and stick it partially in, enough so the toothpick can stand on its own. With the case of an old navel piercing, the skin is being stretched, so it could open a little during pregnancy.

The skin stretching and opening it makes sense. It was definitely closed though - couldn't get anything in it. The redness and itching has since gone down, so I'm not really sure what that was about! Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the replies :)

My belly itched every time it grew, all over, but a little more around the piercing. It could just be from the stretching. Unless there is a clear sign of infection, in all likelihood, it's the stretching.

Try a warm water and sea salt solution. Used to clean mine with this Took mine out at about 17 weeks and gave it a good clean with this solution (had it in for 13 years). So far no trouble with it.

It cleared up the next day. I don't know if it was a combination of wearing tight maternity trousers, hot shower and stretching that just irritated the scar for a bit. I kept it dry and clean and used Savlon, and the redness and itchiness went away within a day.

How bizarre.
