Hi Ladies,

So i got my BFP on August 6th when my period would have been due, i have calculated i should be about 5+2 now, since yesterday i cannot eat a thing without feeling queasy ( I am currently trying to work my way through some pasta ) I am fine with liquids, but food makes me feel yuk. Does anyone have any tips for getting through the nausea? I have been wearing my seabands and they have helped slightly but i have emetophobia so i am dreading the next few weeks in case it gets worse :(

Thanks in advance X

The nausea is awful isn't it. I'm not too bad this time around but I lived on ginger nuts in the first tri with my first.
Hope you find something that helps.
Peppermint is meant to be good too.

If you let yourself get hungry or dehydrated it will be a million times worse, so drink a lot of water and eat small, simple meals (crackers, toast etc.) often. I found ginger ale, toast and popcorn seemed to help if the nausea wasn't too bad.

Honestly nothing really helped me and I had it all day everyday. I spent many many hours in bed trying to sleep trimester 1 away. My doctor put me on anti-nausea medication once I got to 14 weeks and that finally brought me some relief. If it gets unbearable please talk to a doctor as there are things they can give you to help.

The worst thing you can do is not eat - there’s something about being hungry and having low blood sugar that makes it a million times worse.

If you can manage liquids, try things like jelly or yoghurt or a bland soup. If not, I’ve found boring food like plain crisps or breadsticks seems to stay down

If you can manage liquids fine then increase the amount of fluids you are having. Of course it's still important to eat but being dehydrated for me was much worse and if I kept drinking plenty I could then manage to eat.

I have emetophobia too and I know how hard a struggle it can be. This is my 6th pregnancy though and I have realised that I have to keep eating and drinking because the results of not eating/drinking are a lot worse.

Yes you may be sick once in a while but I promise you'll be ok! I know it doesn't seem like it but you will.

Do you have a nutribullet or blender? If yes, i would get yourself some frozen fruit and make some shakes, you can make them as thick or as liquid form as you can manage, and this way you are still getting a good load of nutrients. I usually wouldnt recommend a protein powder, but holland and barret might be able to recommend something, just to get the calories you and the baby need.

As the girls have said, not eating is the worst thing you can do, the first trimester really is the time you need to 'feed to seed' and give it all that you can to help it grow <3

Thankyou ladies! Sorry for late reply, I was wiped out yesterday! Last day of work tomorrow so I'll be heading out to stock up on anti-nausea essentials, as my work have a no eating at desk policy, I cannot wait to finish, I need sleep! Thankyou all x

I had horrible sickness and really struggled to function through the first trimester. All I could eat were plain foods/carbs and I found that having a peppermint as soon as I started to feel nauseous really helped. Nothing else e.g ginger worked. I just had the peppermint and ate tiny bits of plain food constantly to help control the sickness especially whilst at work.
I had horrific migraines too and drinking a can of classic coke worked miracles. I actually still use it for migraines now that I'm no longer pregnant as its more effective than painkillers!

Hey lovey I had hg in my first pregnancy which started with consuming nausea. It then progressed to vomiting 20-30 times a day. What I would say if your feeling like you can’t control the sickness if it comes go straight to drs and go on anti sickness. When I was put in hospital with it they told me not to worry about food just try and take in fluids fizzy if needed. The baby is so small it will take all it needs from you and you will be the one to suffer not the baby. I lost three stone in the first 11 weeks and gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 8lb 2. She she obvs was taking something! So please don’t stress about not eating or not eating the right things ur baby will be fine just make sure you are also xx

I’m currently going through sickness too, I’ve had sickness since week 5.. I’m now 8weeks 3days & so far today I’ve been sick 6 times.. I’m on anti-sickness meds - metoclopramide 10mg 3x a day.. I thought it was working to some extent, but today I feel dreadful! I’m just sleeping so much! I’ve not been at work for 3weeks! I’m trying to eat as normal as possible but mainly plain food - toast n butter is my fave, or chicken super noodles! The issue I have is having to stand up to make the food, that’s what effects me. It’s like motion sickness :(
Everyone keeps saying , it’ll b better after 12 weeks, in the end it’ll be worth it.. which is true, but when you feel like this it just feels years away :( I’m sorry your going through it also.. x

Update! Thankyou all for your supportive comments, I have kept up with my eating, (it's been tough sometimes) and I take vitamin b6 daily now and it has helped, I was prescribed cyclizine also but I am yet to take it (if it becomes absolutely unbearable I will) but an early scan today and seeing bub on the screen made it all worth it xx

If any of you feel like you need any additional support through the sickness contact pregnancy sickness support they are on Facebook and have a forum and website. I am one of the volunteers there and they really helped me get through my first pregnancy xx
