It is a bit long so I apologise in advance.

I went in on Tuesday 3rd November for an elective section but they said if I was dilated at all I could try for a vbac if I wanted. They examined me and I was 4cm so they said they could break my waters, after getting so close with luisa I really wanted to try naturally first. They broke my waters at 12 pm and they was clear so we was all happy, was having contractions but the machine wasn't picking any of them up and it just felt like bad period pain and a lot of pressure down below.

Was examined at 2 pm and was 5cm, had to be continuely monitored so couldn't go and walk around the hospital. Examined again at 4 pm and I was 6cm, they decided to leave it till 7pm and examine me then and see what to do next. I continued to just breath through the contractions but they was getting a lot stronger. Was trying to sleep in between but I kept getting a bad pain up one side of my back which is what I got with luisa so everytime I had a contraction I was sick. Asked for an epidural but they gave me pethidine first instead which I knew would make me even more sick! Had an epidural at 6pm and felt a lot better, examined at 7 and was 8cm. Dr said if I hadn't progressed any further by 8 I would be taken down to theatre to get baby out. By this point whenever I had a contraction poo was coming out my womb. They examined me at 8 and I was fully dilated so they said to try pushing, I was pushing for an hour with no joy so they said to try and sleep for an hour then we would try again. Tried pushing again at 10 pm till 11.30 but was still nothing, I was starting to worry about baby and him pooing but they was constantly telling me he was fine and happy. They told me to sleep once more and try to rest, they came in at 1.30am and said they was going to try the suction cup to help me get him out, tried it twice but the Dr was pulling so hard that it popped off both times so they decided forceps would be better. They cut me straight down to get forceps in and at 2.22am mitchell Simpson was brought into the world, unfortunately he had the cord around his neck so they said every time I pushed the cord was pulling him back in.

He weighed a whopping 9lb 14.5oz, I then started to hemorrhage and lost a litre of blood so the buzzer started going and all Dr's and midwives came running in. Daddy gave mitchell his first bottle while I was stitched up and sorted out. A few hours later we was having cuddles when we noticed his breathing was very fast, they came to do his obs and said they would get the baby Dr's to come look at him. They decided he needed to go down to special care as they was pretty sure he swallowed some of the poo.

We now know that he has pneumonia and e-coli septicaemia and will be in Special care for at least 2 weeks. They had to do a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis and thankfully he doesn't have it. I'm not sure if them leaving him in there for so long could if caused this or if he would of been ill no matter what so it's a very stressful and emotional time at the moment. I absolutely hate leaving him there but I also have to make sure that I'm spending time with luisa and also to try and rest so it seems like there isn't enough time in the day to do everything.*

Sorry for the essay ladies, he is a pic of my little boy xx

Congratulations on the birth of your little boy! He's gorgeous!

I'm sorry you had such a tough time.

I hope he's better and home soon. I can't imagine how awful it must be to have to leave your baby at hospital.

Thank you everyone, he is a little fighter bless him. He came out of intensive care on Monday and is now in Special care, he is in a normal cot with no wires or anything so we can get him out whenever we want. He is having every feed by a bottle now so his nose tube is out, he should hopefully be home beginning of next week :-) xx

Awww well done him. It's amazing how one or two days can make so much difference in the life of a baby.

He is gorgeous Maxine. Funny though I remember the sock on the hand thing. Practical but looks really silly. Hope he is home asap and you can get settled as a little family of 4. X

I know when I first saw it I thought what the hell is that but now it's so much better so he doesn't catch it on anything.

They are hoping that he will only need 10 days of antibiotics and today is day 8 so not to long and then hopefully he will be home :-) xxx

Hope so. Strong little boy. Has Luisa been able to meet him yet?

Being in special care had its advantages for us... he is not fussy who he goes to, drinks his bottles at room temperature and is very contented. X
